I participated in my first criterion race today. I stayed in the back
because I'm a big chicken. Any advice on cornering techniques in a pack?

Stay at the back is standard advice for a first crit. Well done.
As for cornering - don't dive underneath or move around, that's what
the straights are for.

The best advice that was ever given was to ride as many races as possible,
training races included. Try to follow the "fast" guys. They will take the
best line and you will get used to riding really close to other riders and
the speed.

Congratulations on finishing. Many new riders get shelled quickly at their
first race.
