Anyone seen/riden one of these: http://www.motorcities.com/contents/07/2007-Mercedes-Benz-Bike-Collection_07BRB275026814.html Not a bad bike altogether, if you can overlook the Alivio components.

What I've learned from that link: racks and fenders are for girls, the average rider is so pusillanimous as to need a suspension with 37mm tires, and that Merc is unaware of a Merc level drivetrain, which would be a Rohloff hub.

BUT not light and 'light' is the mantra today..'lighter is better', when lighter is really just 'lighter'. > > I like how these bikes come with integrated lights, racks, etc., but I > don't think Mercedes is doing themselves any favors with gimmicky frame > designs and high prices. There's nothing wrong with Alivio components -- they work fine, better than the top of the line did 10-15 years ago. I like how these bikes come with integrated lights, racks, etc., but I don't think Mercedes is doing themselves any favors with gimmicky frame designs and high prices. Sooner or later enough riders will figure out their bikes are just -- expensive. At least Mercedes cars feel like they're special, and better made. In contrast, the AMP-Mercedes mountain bikes from a decade ago had something to offer technologically. They were the best suspension design of the time, one that lives on as the Specialized FSR, still a great bike. Also, offering the AMP-Mercedes bikes with travel cases was a major breakthrough. I can't understand why it never caught on. It's natural for mountain bikes since the frames are in halves anyway -- no need for expensive couplers, etc. Back to cars and bikes, the Trek Edition Jetta was one of the most successful car promotions ever. Twentysomethings who were buying Jettas were also buying bikes and bike racks. With the Trek Jetta they could pay for all of it with a low-interest car loan. This was very st. Matt O.

I guess its a matter of form over function at the three pointed star (aka Chrysler). Jobst Brandt
