AirFrance leads the way, charging $150 SFO-CDG (Paris) outbound, and 150
*Euros* (about $210) return. That from an airline headquartered in one of
the world's more bike-friendly countries.

$80-$100 each way is rapidly becoming the norm, although as of last July,
United was still allowing a bike as a piece of checked luggage, providing it
met the weight requirement (50 pounds total, including packaging). This may
have changed by now; hard to believe an airline would overlook an
opportunity for revenue enhancement these days!

Just bring your pedals and mount them up on a Velib! :-D

Seriously, though--if I get another go-fast road bike, news like this
sure does push me towards something like a Ritchey Break-Away.

i've already decided that my next and last bike will be a custom
fat tire ti touring bike built by roark with ti couplers and
their custom suitcase. living in a part of alaska where alaska
airlines has no competition and charges $50 each segment has
gotten real tiresome.
