Subject: Are Newsgroups Chat Rooms?
Does anyone but me notice how much newsgroups have come to resemble chat
rooms. Someone will post a word or two and then others will chip in with
their word or two. No one knows how to write let alone how to think. Usenet
is soon going to go the way of the Dodo Bird if it hasn't already. As far as
I can see, there is no one left on the cycling newsgroups except idiots,
morons and imbeciles. If and when I read anything intelligent, I am actually
shocked.

Do you not know that writing is different than speaking. But most of you
write like you speak. Consequently you come across as just plain dumb. An
appropriate message to Usenet ought to consist of a couple of well
constructed paragraphs at least. Why is that so difficult? Surely we all
learned how to read and write by the 8th grade.

Usenet is doomed. Anyone with any intelligence has long since left for
greener pastures elsewhere. So what killed Usenet? It was not the spammers,
the trolls or the off-topic posters. It was all the idiots who do not have a
clue about how to think or how to write.

All newsgroups are astoundingly stupid, but some are more stupid than
others. AB is one of the very worst, but the others are not far behind. I am
convinced Usenet newsgroups are only for the dumb and the stupid. It is a
total waste to time to spend any of it on a newsgroup.

I believe I shall shortly take a final farewell (my 7th) and leave the lot
of you to yourselves forever. That is what you deserve. You certainly don't
deserve the Great Ed Dolan. I am also a Great Saint too, but I know that is
beyond your comprehension. You are all mired in sin and would not know grace
if it jumped up and bit you in the elbow.

My final farewell, like all my others, will consist of much cussing and
swearing and slamming of doors. Please stay tuned.

They have nicely answered any questions there might be as to why I ride
alone and way up in the mountains. Waterfalls, birds, and nature never
argue about things.

I dunno about that, a mockingbird has been having a bit of a
disagreement with me over the ownership rights to a yaupon in my front
yard again. That bird's getting to be a real menace. The war should
be over in another week, when the birdlets are fledged and out of the
nest.

I am not a troll at all. I am an instigator of invigorating conversation.

In all the years I have been on Usenet, I have only encountered personally
one true troll. Trolls border on being morons and criminals. I have neither
the time nor the inclination to bother with such stupidities.

For the rest of you, yes, but for someone so Great as myself, no. I never
really ask questions except they be of a rhetorical nature. Actually, I know
all the answers and the last thing I want is any input from the numskulls of
Usenet.

I'm pretty sure he's strictly looking for a Socratic dialogue.

"It would seem so Socrates."

"You are so wise Socrates."

"You have persuaded me Socrates."

Simply replace "Socrates" with "Ed Dolan" and you have a perfect dialogue.

Note how Dane Buson deleted ARBR from the newsgroups of the original post.
Why? Because he does not want to ever get a reply from one so Great as
Myself. Screw him! He can go to ARBR if he ever wants to follow a thread of
mine.

Two points for Bob. There has been a lot of squabbling but I see it on
other groups too, so maybe it is par for the course. In chat rooms I
tend to get into high speed typing contests with the person on the other
end, so I stay away from them for the most part. I get into that with my
sister (next state) and daughter (next room)(??), but avoid chat rooms.

Not sure I agree with that but Microsoft Outlook does annoy me that it
encourages "top posting". Always has.

Now, does anyone know how to make a kill file for google groups?

That depends on the newsreader you use; I've been told that it's
possible with some of them, but would you really want to kill
*everything* that originates from Google Groups? Hmm, maybe so, in
certain instances.

Oh, wait, you mean *using* a killfile *while using* the Google Groups
interface. No, this is not currently supported.

Nice try, but it doesn't kill google postings, it encourages them!

To kill file the troll (Edward Dolan) assuming you're using OE, click on
Message at the top of the screen, then click on Block Sender when it (the
troll) posts next time.

To kill file google is similar:

Click on Tools at the top of your screen; then Message Rules; then News;
then follow the prompts.

Ed,

Top posted for yout personal enjoyment. This is just more of the same
regurgitated cut and past boiler plat crap. You are sadly in need of
some new material. No one gives two shits what you think. No one will
miss you if and when you ar gone. As concerns your opinion regarding
Usenet newsgroups, you've said it all before and you own words speak
volumes...

"I frankly do not have the slightest idea what newsgroups are all

"Usenet is strictly for idiots, assholes and jerks - positively no

and jerk of them all. I set the standard for one and all. I believe I
can state with absolute assurance that I am the Greatest Idiot, the
Greatest Asshole and the Greatest Jerk that Usenet has ever known in
its' long and dishonored history. For Christ's sakes, I prove it every

"I am merely a gadfly buzzing about this group ever striving to create
some mayhem. I am superfluous. Think of me as the buffoon of ARBR and
you will not be far wrong."

"All I ever want to do is to defeat and humiliate you, but how can I do
that if you refuse to post your idiotic messages. Please show some

Good riddance to bad rtubbisn I say and when you die ... est in peace.
