Subject: Help finding SW Michigan cyclist met on RAGBRAI

I'm hoping someone out there knows the person I'm looking for. A
woman (who I believe said her name was Susan) gave some great
encouragement to my 13 year old nephew on his first major ride of 68
miles last wednesday on RAGBRAI. She was fit, fast, and towing along
her teenage daughter, both in pink jerseys. She lives in SW Michigan
"about 20 miles south of Kalamazoo", has three children, and recently
got back into racing. If anyone knows who this is please pass along
my thanks and admiration.

Sorry it has taken me a week to respond (I was with my cross country
team at
our team camp), but I am indeed the Whiner that chatted with Matt and
encourged his nephew (with the help of some Whiner beads) to pick up
the
pace and give Matt a run for his money. My daughter Sarah and I were
enjoying the ride, the great Iowa scenery and the people. I recall
conversing with Matt down the road a bit, soaking in the pride he
radiated
as he talked about his nephew's first big ride.
The compliments were nice, but a bit inflated! I must admit that I do
have
a passion for bicycling! Thanks for making the connection complete Ed!

Thanks Karen! Not sure what you mean about the back of the left
hand. I didn't notice anything but at mile 50 in that heat and
humidity it's easy to forget obvious details and assume you'll figure
it all out later. Never saw them again in that crowd!

Matt, I don't know Susan, but I'm in Grand Rapids (about 60 miles
north of K'zoo) and I just posted your message to the League of
Michigan Bicyclists list serve. We'll track her down for ya!
Surely Susan or her daughter utilized the back of their left hand to
indicate where they live, no??

I always used the palm of the right hand, myself. I needed the left hand
when I lived in da UP.
