~ Since Portland, Oregon is a city of light rail and bicycle enthusiasts, I have found the perfect vehicle for both. See <http://catskillarchive.com/rrextra/odveloc1.jpg >. ~

Preventing devices like these from using MAX tracks is just like preventing slow-moving bicycles/pedestrians/ other things from using urban sections of I-5 and I-205. --Jason McHuff, http://www.jasonmchuff.net/

~ What will TriMet do, when the 205 MAX line opens for business, and the battle begins on who will control the drug trade on this new line? The 205 MAX will, for most of its run, be going thru the area Portland police have called, for many years, "Felony Flats" (and more recently Tweakertown). ~

~ Police have arrested two teen boys in connection with a shots-fired call Thursday evening in Northeast Portland. Daniel Binns and Erick Butler, both 16, are charged with unauthorized possession of a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, reckless endangering, disorderly conduct and interfering with public transportation. Two handguns were found at the scene, police said, but no victim was identified. At least five people were detained Thursday night after shots were reportedly fired around 7:10 p.m. in the 1500 block Northeast 82nd Avenue. Portland Police Bureau Sgt. Brian Schmautz said some of the suspects ran toward the tracks near the Northeast 82nd Avenue MAX Light Rail Station. TriMet had to hold its MAX trains and bus passengers between PDX and the Rose Quarter for about an hour. The 1500 block of Northeast 82nd Avenue was also shut down. ~

~ This sharing of the rails can work. TriMet Max trains could run on odd number days, and the cyclists could have the even number days. Are not Portland pedestrians expected to share their walkways on some bridges with cyclists? Aren't motorists sharing the Portland streets with cyclists? In some cases, there has even been the loss of traffic and/or parking lanes to accommodate for dedicated bike lanes. Cyclists are even allowed to use the freeways in Portland. And, pity the poor hiker who get in the way of a mountain bike rider on one of Portland many park paths. So, why should the TriMet Light Rail right-of-ways be off limits to cyclists? ~
