I almost ran some of these over on my 60 mile Saturday ride. http://www.bikesandmoreonline.com/misc-pics/goathead.jpg Ken -- The bicycle is just as good company as most husbands and, when it gets old and shabby, a woman can dispose of it and get a new one without shocking the entire community. ~Ann Strong

I used to ride an old unpaved railbed to a friend's house when I was young. I don't think that I ever succeeded in making the round trip without a goathead flat.

Out here they are actually paving the unused ones and making people paths out of them. All I ever see is bicycles, never any pedestrians, maybe because the paths go about 3 miles between roads to get on/off. My off road is definitely as far away from weeds as I can get. Bill Baka

Looks like one of the 'thorns' already broke off in a tire. Hate to have to fix THAT leak! Arlie Ken C. M. wrote: > I almost ran some of these over on my 60 mile Saturday ride. > > http://www.bikesandmoreonline.com/misc-pics/goathead.jpg > > Ken

Looks more like Whole Goat to me, wich of course, includes the head. Less likely to result in a flat, but more likely to result in a bent rim. Austin

Actually I don't even know that they grow here in Florida. They have caused me to put super thick tubes and extra heavy slicks on my main mountain bike. The slicks are great for the road and thicker than knobbies where it counts. The knobbies have almost no rubber between the knobs, so they suck at sticker resistance. I have learned to stay on the dirt and out of the weeds, at least. Bill Baka

Thank goodness! Be thankful you don't encounter any mulehead...they take up more space on the road and are harder to avoid. :)

I saw them a way off but I figured they would be pretty quick to get out of the road. I was wrong. I had to come to a complete stop, which made for a photo op.
