Student aims gun at squirrels and is arrested
"Two days after the massacre at Virginia Tech, a student at an elite
New Jersey boarding school was arrested yesterday after he was seen
aiming what appeared to be a handgun from the window of his campus
residence.
The weapon, authorities said, was later determined to be a plastic
pellet gun. The student's target: squirrels. "

I'm a gun owner, hunter, slayer of squirrels, target shooter, etc.
But, it is often impossible to distinguish between a real gun and a
pellet gun, especially from a distance and by someone who is
unfamiliar. Plus, I would think that a prudent policy for a school
would be zero tolerance for any weapons. Anyway, a decent pellet gun
is plenty dangerous - to humans, animals, windows, etc. Just my POV -
he was being kind of stupid, or at least clueless. I'm speaking from
personal experience (being stupid and clueless, especially at that
age). I don't think he should be significantly punished, but it
should be clear to him and others that guns are a no-no on school
grounds.

I try to exterminate every squirrel I see around my house. To me they
have the same staus as other vermin such as rats and mice,
That said, It seems obvious that anyone brandishing a weapon for any
reason, however harmless, at a school should be immediately called on
it. The guy is going to find another way to kill the furry rats -
maybe a powerful sling shot with a couple of 00 buck shot pellets.
