Subject: Trek 7500 or Cannondale Adventure 600?

Hi
I'm a noob to this group, recently getting back on the bike after too
many years of being a car-potato. My '91 Cannondale H600 is probably
still OK for me, but I'm looking to get something for my spousal unit,
and it's been many many years since I've been in a bike shop.
My wife is sorely (emphasis on the SORE) in need of an upgrade from her
15 y.o. Schwinn High Plains flat bar. Not only does it weigh a ton, but
the neck and shoulder strain is taking its toll....she needs a more
upright position.
After a cursory check of some in-town shops and online propaganda, it
looks like these two bikes (Trek 7x00 and Canondale Adventure series)
MAY have the right combination of upright positioning and "performance"
(as if any of these bikes really "perform").
Does anybody have any insight into these two bikes, or if there's
another line I should be looking at, please chime in. Target price:
$700-900. Use: around town, commuting and maybe light touring. Varied
terrain (some relatively steep hills), not much (if any) off-road use.
We live in the northWet, so perhaps disc brakes will be an asset.
Insights, anyone?

Thanks for the link. Some decent reviews at that site. Only one review
for the 'dale, though.
BTW, the 07 7500 is lots different than the 02 7500fx. I was able to
find the correct review, though.
