Subject: Trouble with Nashbar
I posted here about a month that Nashbar was running an excellent price on
the DiNotte 600L--on sale and a 15% off coupon. The price was too good to
turn down, so I ordered one. I was then told it was on backorder. This was
on September 11, and I was told it would be in stock at the "end of the
month".

The end of September came, so I called Nashbar. I was told the lights would
be in stock on October 3. Not a big deal, and the customer service tech I
was dealing with seemed genuinely interested in getting my product to me.

I called back on October 3 and was told the in stock date was still October
3 and that I should call back in a week. Meanwhile I was in contact with the
manufacturer and was told lights had been shipped. Didn't want to cancel the
Nashbar order b/c the price was too good.

That was two weeks ago. I called Nashbar every few days and the date kept
shifting. First it was October 3, then October 10, then October 22, then
sometime "at the end of the month". I called to check status today and was
told the lights would be in stock on 11/20.

I cancelled the Nashbar order and called DiNotte directly. Rob had a light
in stock and shipped it out to me. It will be here Monday. He gave me an
excellent price, too.

I've dealt with Nashbar since the 1980s and never had a problem. Don't know
what happened here. I wonder if the price I was able to pull in was too
cheap and they were just jerking me around?

Mike

Never had a problem with Nashbar. Sometimes they say it'll ship when
they get it. And they do. Whenever I needed to call them about my
order, I've always gotten courteous and well informed help. Now if
only they'll put up their 20% coupon again.

They put coupons up all the time. I get some kind of sale notice almost
every day.

I've had similar problems. The seem to make mistakes on their website,
then try to weasel out of giving you the product at that price.

They also forget to ship stuff. A couple of times I've had things not
shipped until a week or even two weeks after ordering. These were things
they claimed were in stock. In general I find them to be slow and
haphazard. I've never had a Nashbar order go completely smoothly.

Performance, OTOH, seems to have its act together. I've actually gotten
things from them the very next day, with just regular shipping. (They
come from about 3 hours away.) Same parent company, but obviously better
run. I've never had a problem with a Performance order.

Pricepoint is good too.

My guess is Nashbar / Performance is trying to grow their business very
quickly, with new retail stores. Some parts of their business are probably
not getting enough attention or resources.

I have not had any trouble with the online store, or the new retail store in
my neighborhood - Schaumburg, IL

This kind of practice can lead to a large "windfall" profit over the
course of a year if it goes unnoticed by the customer(s). OTOH, on web
orders, the total will clearly reflect whether or not the discount has
been applied. So, *caveat emptor* when dealing with Nashbar these
days.

Sad, but true.

I have spent thousands of dollars at Nashbar over the years. This
year I have had to call them 3 times on 3 different orders to correct
the billing. Either they didn't deduct a coupon code or a free
shipping code was not honored. This gets old fast.

Their service really has gone downhill lately.

I wont even start in on their crappy new website.
