Reason: Because if you eat a meal containing carbs 30 go 90 minutes prior to your ride, then you will primarily burn carbs for fuel rather than fat.

Before riding, I eat protein---scrambled eggs, cheese, bacon---something along those lines. I used to eat cereal but the milk in my gut would make me nauseous while climbing tough hills. There's nothing like wondering if you will make the top of the hill or vomit first....or wondering if you can vomit while standing up riding a bike. You don't have to go out "in a somewhat fasted state", you just have to plan on not eating carbs first. Pat in TX >

That makes sense. Eat protein only and, in the absence of carbs, ones body will burn more stored fat.

Over and over and over. The article is not just for fat people though.

I did not realize it fat burning was a self fullfilling prophecy ie thinner fit people burn fat faster. predisposed to it so it takes time and practice folks doing it the right way
