Subject: mysterious J Busset racing bike with Huret, CLP and Vitus 971

I am in France this week and am horribly tempted by a 60cm racing bike I spotted in a second hand shop. Can anyone shed some light on this "beau becane"? The frame is marked "J Busset" but as I've never heard of that brand before (even over here) I imagine that it is or was a bike shop that slapped their name on frames. Either that or it is an very obscure frame maker. (I think we are talking the 70s here.) What really caught my eye were the brakes. CLP which I had seen only once before and which I find oddly beautiful. (though I have also read that they were so effective that they were almost dangerous.) the derailleurs are Huret, the cranks Stronglight. odd also was the fact that it has triple front chainrings and holes (not the correct term I am sure but...) at the front and rear drop outs, I presume for racks. This would suggest that this was a touring bike BUT the frame is soooooo light (shockingly so) that I cannot imagine it being ridden fully loaded. the frame stickers are VItus 971 which I understand was the lightest, thinnest tubing Vitus made. SO, again, I can't imagine this being a touring bike. Anyone have any insights to share on this bike? I have some pictures. E-mail me if you think they might help Many thanks Peter

Why presume racks when they're there for fenders. Find some vintage matching Bleumels while you're there.
