Can you elaborate? I've been wondering about this registry myself.

In theory. But in theory, Titanic was unsinkable. Theory and
practice are often at variance.

In terms of "will they lose your data?", they're probably reliable.
In terms of "Will it be likely to get consulted by the law enforcement
agency that recovers your stolen bike?", I would expect the answer to
be "no" more often than not.

IMO, no.

Well, I haven't heard of anyone recovering their bike with it. If
you're at the UW, I imagine you could register with the campus police,
which would probably be more efficient.

But then, I'm probably biased against anyone who would sell my email
address.

It must be remembered that there is nothing more difficult to plan, more
doubtful of success, nor more dangerous to manage, than the creation of
a new system. For the initiator has the emnity of all who would profit
by the preservation of the old institutions and merely lukewarm defenders
in those who would gain by the new ones.

send me $10, your bike info, and if any police ask me if I know who the
bike they found belongs to I'll pass on the info.

It's worth ten dollars to the person receiving the cash
