I sent this to Neil, but the information pertains to all of us.

Hey Neil -

Thought I'd reply this way because your thread on adult beginning
cycling is from way last December.

I, too, am an older beginner. In fact, I'm 62 and just bought a Sun
Retro-Alloy Cruiser today. I probably paid too much (300$ including
tax) but I wanted to get started riding. I was assured the bike would
hold my weight and last forever. Of course, I'll believe that when I
see it. I'm over 300 pounds.

Well, I hope to ride accident free. I rode around the neighborhood
today and didn't have too much trouble. But I'm really going to be
careful because I don't want to ruin my bike. I tell the neighbors
that if they see me lying on the ground next to my bike, please save
the BIKE.

When I rode as a kid, I really had some doozers of crashes. As far as
endos (see, i'm picking up the jargon) we lived at the bottom of a
hill and I would race down the hill to the house. If I happened to
hit the front brake first, I'd have a wicked endo. It didn't happen
very often.

I hope you're doing well cycling, and please let me know how you are
progressing.

You'll find, the more you ride around the neighborhood, the more confident
you feel. If it's been a while since you've been on the bike, while it's
true, you'll remembe how to ride, it takes a while to regain judgement about
your speed, your position on the road, and so on.

> I hope you're doing well cycling,

Thanks. We've got a big ride coming up this weekend. We're planning to ride
up to Vancouver over the next couple of days. It'll be about a hundred miles
from here to Bellingham, and then another eighty or so up and over the
border to Vancouver.

Nah, this works the other way - you gotta let us know how *you're*
progressing.

Enjoy your new bike!

Nah. Didn't mean to judge your post.

Andrew Dice Clay once asked -- during his stand-up routine -- "So what
are yuz' guys' names: Neil and Bob ... or is that, like, what you do?"

... had to be there ....
