Try to rely less on your brakes. Don't ride around
in group rides or races with your hands on the brakes. Learn to deal
with trouble by getting past it, not by just slowing down.

Follow that advice in a typical bike club crowd and you will be one

Exactly. One becomes one with the road as one sets the bike free to
follow its own path.

The trick is to get into a good meditation position with all that road
rash.

These always worked for Kane in that old TV series. Well, for the
first half of the show anyway. After that he just kicked
butt. :-) Still, learning restraint is a useful exercise.

Lots of people in here have restrained their learning.

OK, NO one is that dumb. You're officially demoted to "troll". But
do try to keep it entertaining at least... someone might actually
think you have a clue and get hurt.

k, you just don't get it. This is Usenet. Nobody would post something

Of course, this is also usenet. Knowing how to spell rec.bicycles.misc
qualifies one to post here.

If you do it long enough, you can post without even knowing the
subject. At that point, you transcend off-topic posting altogether.

Dear Nash,

One of the great Buddhist qualities to cultivate is equinimity. You don't
want to water the seeds of anger within you. I've noticed that quite a few
times you've responded with anger when someone replies in a way that hurts
your feelings.

If you like to sign your posts with "Zen", it's time to practice. Here is a
way for you to go forward with your practice. When someone posts something
that makes you feel bad, don't immediately fire off a zinger in reply. Sit
there. Breathe. With gentle curiosity, maybe with a little bit of humor,
notice how you are feeling. Notice how it feels in your body. And breathe
some more. You'll probably find that the initial anger is really rooted in
your ego being bruised a bit. And the more you breathe, the feelings will
not longer be so sharp.

Now that you are no longer blinded by your ego and your emotions, you can
make some decisions. You can decide: yes, this poster upset me this time,
but generally s/he has something valuable to say in this newsgroup.
Therefore, I will forgive him/her this time. Or, you can decide, this poster
generally does not make valuable contributions to the newsgroup; I will gain
little or nothing from reading this person's posts. Then quietly killfile
the person. You might have to make refined decisions: I enjoy reading this
person's posts, but I will never read a contribution from him on, let's say,
off-topic political posts, or helmet threads, or something, because they
drive me up the wall. That might work for you too.

If you can't even get to the first step, then get up from the computer and
go for a ride. Even if it's wet or dark out. I bet it'll help.

The Eight-fold path:

Right View
Right Thought
Right Speech
Right Action
Right Livelihood
Right Effort
Right Mindfulness
Right Contemplation

Nothing in there about the Right Brake.

Yeah, but we're talking about the front brake, and on this side of the
pond, it's the LEFT brake.

Hmmmm.... there's gotta be a political overtone in there somewhere...

Hey, give it credit for spelling it right this time.

And 'bastard' could be misspelled and pass a speel checker, too.

Wait - maybe it wanted to call k a bustard afterall. OK, we may
have to withhold credit until we have an official finding.
