It being a rainy Sunday I was netsurfing about with no particular purpose.
I ended up on the city library's site that includes links to archival
photos. Much would be of no interest to anyone not from the area. I found it
interesting to compare how the city has grown and changed in almost a half
century - before I was even born let alone moved here.

Anyways I came across this photo of a downtown Guelph street dated July 12.
1961. Note how the cyclist is completely taking his lane.

Note how very few cars there are. I remember those days from the 50's
and even the 60's when we moved to California's now 'Silicon Valley'.
I went back to the town in Illinois where I lived from 1957-1962 and it
was a near heart attack shock to see what had been a beautiful little
suburb become a traffic nighte.
Also of note is that when I first started attending high school in
Campbell, Ca. in 1963, Campbell Ave itself was a dirt road. Can you
possibly imagine a dirt road in Silicon valley today?
If I had a time machine I would shoot for about 1948 and relive that
whole era.

Those pictures of the bike shop seem too familiar, almost like I've been
there. I think the bike shops of the 50's must have been pretty much the
same. Nostalgia attack coming on.

Yeah that brings back memories.
We still happen to have a bike shop like that here in Carrolton Texas.
The Carrolton Bike Exchange, its been there for ages, and it still has the
classic Schwinn Signs, and they still sell Schwinns and Ralieghs too.

Yeah, I have bought three bikes from them over the years.

Here's another of a bike being awarded as a prize. The date is October 1,
1960. I wonder what that bike would go for today in mint condition.
