People are complaining that there's no discussion of racing going on,
because not much racing is going on.

So what does that mean about the Tour of California? It's not a "real" race
because? Or has it simply been overlooked?

Just trying to get something started about racing, y'know?

I have something in common with Bettini. We both like to race bicyles
during our vacations.

If we don't stand up and fight the lakes in Iraq,
eventually we will have to fight them here. Do you
want a future in which illegal lakes are swarming
into America to commit terrorist acts of weather?

There is also another event with Greg Lemond on Wednesday 2/21 at Palo
Alto Bicycles:

http://www.paloaltobicycles.com/events.html

Although the web site does not mention it, they ran an ad in
yesterday's Palo Alto Weekly indicating you need to call for
reservations. It looks like the event is free.

There's a FFF event on Wednesday in San Jose that might be an

I took off my shirt for the ladies.

I was born and raised in the Land of Lake Effect Snow. It is
downright balmy here.

Did you know Lake Effect Snow is caused 40% by the war in iraq, and
60% by global warming?

I think you have "Lake Effect Snow" confused with "Nov. 2006 election
results".

Must be a momentary confusion. I noticed that, in another thread, you
(quite sensibly) placed the responsibility for all this with "assbags".
I think we can all agree to that, so long as we're not too picky about
which particular assbags.

Yes, I've also discovered that world terrorism is a direct result of global
warming. Those Muslim extremists are really mad that we're destroying their
nice clean deserts with our warmth.

The Tour California matters a lot especially to the US cycling scene.
It gives a good basis to for a bigger Tour hopefully. It's too bad
however that the Tour of California is taking off when all this drug
controversy is going on. It will take cycling awhile to recover from
all of this.

What is it worth in UCI points?

That's what makes races matter.

Professional racing is a keting enterprise. Many factors go into the
success of a race. UCI points are just one motivator for rider success.
But in the end, the real issue is the ability of riders to draw
positive exposure to products and services.

A key to the success of a race is fan interest. People need to get out
and participate. I hope folks reading this within striking distance of
the race don't adopt the "it's better on TV" approach. Get out there
and be a part of it! Even a 5-second live view is better than a
50-minute view of glowing LCDs or flipping mirrors.

Other events, too, like the hillclimb on Saturday:
http://www.sanjoseca.gov/kingofthemountain.html

Saturday night is a pre-race event @ City Cycle:
http://www.citycycle.com/

Sunday night is a Floyd Landis event, for those who are interested:
http://www.floydfairnessfund.org/

The Sunday night LeMond-Liggett event on the 1989 Tour de France is sold
out....

mention on the venue's site about it.

It'll matter to the fans about as much as it matters to the racers. I

Well I'm hoping it is a real race because I'm going downtown Monday to
watch the finish. I just hope it doesn't rain. Today it was
beautiful weather. I hope it holds out!

But I really want to get out Tuesday on Trinity Grade. That is a rude-
ass climb. (Although there are worse not far away.) I've done it.
Going *down* the other side isn't easy either. Too bad it isn't
closer to the finish.

Today beautiful? It was freezing ass cold if you were riding. Although it
was a good 15 degrees warmer today than it was a couple of weeks ago, it
actually felt colder when riding because of the high humidity.

I can't comment on that, but am hopeful we'll get some ridiculously
