That's unfair. It could open all sorts of capped bottles besides
beer.

Looks like it might be a gear hub or a Rohloff (ok, a
Rohloff is a gear hub). Also, there have been derailleur
bikes with rear-facing dropouts. The Cervelo TT bike
(a P3?) that Jalabert's mechanic muffed a wheel change
on several years ago had rear facing dropouts. IIRC,
this was to facilitate getting the wheel close to the
curved seat tube cutout, to allow use on the track
as well as road, and to look distinctive for
keting purposes.

I know of the Whitbred race. Didn't realize there was a bike race
around the globe. Can you post a link, ya goofy bastard?

You and Kveck probably keep old bottle cages around just to open beer
bottles.

The guy that raced Ben Hur had those on his wheels a couple thousand
years ago.

Just found what HAS to be the ultimate LIVEDRUNK training accessory:

http://tinyurl.com/yun32t
Refrigerator will toss you can of beer

RALEIGH, N.C. - When John Cornwell graduated from Duke University last
year, he landed a job as software engineer in Atlanta but soon found
himself longing for his college lifestyle. So the engineering graduate
built himself a reminder of life on campus: a refrigerator that can
toss a can of beer to his couch with the click of a remote control.

It's got a 10 can magazine too!
Should make indoor training much more "interesting". Imagine cruising
along on the mag trainer, surfing porn, and having the fridge toss you
cold beers. Now all we need is a Nacho dispenser.
Could be pretty hazardous for those training on rollers though.
Should make a good YouTube video though.

It is good to see someone from Duke apply themselves to something that
contributes to the good of mankind. Unexpected, but good.

Sheesh! Tom, do you want folks to be sympathetic with
your notions? Apparently not. You want to guarantee that

Michael, in case you missed it, none of these idiots have a word to say

bottle with a bottle cage.

Think about this - if THESE guys dismiss what I say who could POSSIBLY care?

A web site dedicated to showing that you can use anything at all to
open a beer bottle... Isn't that knowledge hard-wired in our genes?

This is the best one:

I saw an Argentine ?Army? officer cut the head off of a couple of
champagne bottles with a sword. What would be safe for a LiveDrunk
member to try on six pack of, say, Coronas? (Chosen for the bottle
neck, not the beer.) The drawing of blood is what made me remember
this...

`Saw' as in `was present at'? I have _heard_ that oenophiles
use this method to open a wine bottle with a fragile cork.
First they score the neck, then whang it with a sharp steel
edge.

Manly men crack the neck of a whisky bottle to tacitly
express that it will not be re-corked for their esoteric
bonding ritual.

Actually, yes. The husband of my wife's supervisor was (and probably
is) the major distributor in the U.S. for Argentine wines and they
were invited to a wine party at the Embassy in DC, and we got free
invites. I was pretty close and had somewhat the same feeling I had at
a Harrier demo in Thailand, just in miniature - your imagination can
get out of hand when people are using weapons in your immediate
vicinity. (I figured the Harrier would have had to work its way
through the Thai naval attache and group first, so I would have time
to get small.)

It evidently is a officer corp thing that goes back to Castille. I had
to take their reason for it - they had all the swords, and I knew they
knew how to use them...

BTW, it wasn't as neat as it could have been - they set it up for the
tops to hit a wall, which they did. Not cool like a Chinese movie,
where everything stays in place and all. But it was a clean cut, both
of them.

Er, Jerseys... still on, but I'm lazy. Soon.

I can see trolling for Dobermans, but I would want to be riding
something that gave me at least an even chance to outrun one.

No way unless you want to be lectured about economic theory all the time
while you ride.

Plus, people would always be humming the theme for the Wicked Witch of the
West to you as you ride up.

But a little work in Photoshop and you can have all sorts of fun. Ullrich
and Armstrong riding it. Kunich and Chung. Pedalchick and CritPro. The
possibilities are n(n-1)/2.

Two kickstands?

It seems to stand adequately on just one, but this rig does seem to
weigh around 50 pounds. It's not the worst design decision on this bike.

I thought about ditching the kickstands (both of 'em), but I think this
is one bicycle where having kickstands is a pretty practical choice:
it's huge, heavy, and doesn't have a side without easily-bent
chainguards.

But I think the maker just put two kickstands on because when they were
finished welding, they realized they had welded in both kickstand mounts

I'm not so sure about the practicality of the stock gearing, which seems
to be set up so I can ride this thing in flat TTs. I haven't taken it
out with the missus yet, but I suspect only the lowest gear will
actually get any use.
