This is why Leipheimer, and now Vinokourov (who says he wears black to
avoid being tailed by fanboys, are not as serious as Lance Armstrong.

Lance Armstrong trains with a follow car and a bunch of bodygaurds.

That was just mean, Ron. At least allow me to have my delusions that
the full USPS kit (I'm a little strapped at the moment and can't
afford anything newer) fools people into believing I'm a pro. I mean
I have the gloves and socks and matching helmet, so how can they tell
for sure?

Next they will be cancelling the team paint jobs on the follow cars that
they make their wife drive and get basic black.

I guess that I can still spot them by their aero bars that are pointed
almost straight up.

Even during the Postal/Disco heydays, where I live all black was more
popular among sporty cyclists. Esp Assos-type stuff.

I'm in Florida, the only people wearing black right now are fat *mountain
bikers. But in winter I'll see that Assos look and black tri stuff.

*Fat mountain bikers are on a whole level of fat up from your usual master
fattie.

All black doesn't seem to be huge here. Most of the local racers seem to
train in their kit and since the retirement of LA there isn't a unified
replacement of the Postal kit. I bet that there are a lot of carbon Treks
sitting in garages. I don't see as many on the road and not a huge volume
on craigslist.

samples, but they rammed me off of the road. Guys were in a pickup
and it was in Arizona. Talk about long arm of the law!

Something similar happened to a guy I know. Except he wasn't on a
bike, he was walking in a field. And he wasn't wearing team kit. And
he wasn't knocked over -- just a big floating disk appeared above him
with bright lights.

UCI Controllers are everywhere. Ya know the black helicopters.... Yep, it's
them. Alien abduction, UCI Controllers again. And yes, they do the anal probing
thing, ask Lance.

You can't get away from them, all you can do is wear generic kit so they can't
trace you back to your team. That might be what saved you - after harvesting you
for testing they realized that you weren't on a pro team.

This is absofuckinglutely the stupidest damn thing I've seen in this dumbass
sport with its assclown organizations and buttmonkey inquisitors. What possible
purpose is this idiotic press release supposed to serve? Is it to assure
everyone that doping is solved as a problem in the sport? That they're making
progress? That they have found a clue in the form of a blue pawprint? What?

Real sports do not announce unconfirmed AAFs.

Real sports do not announce that they have singled out a handful of athletes for
additional scrutiny.

Real organizations of any sort do not announce ongoing investigations into
misconduct of which the public is not already aware..

I wish these people would leave the sport alone and go find something useful to
do with their remaining lives.

UCI goes after the "Men in Black"

The UCI has targeted "six or seven" top riders who are suspected of using doping
products, by subjecting them to extra unannounced doping controls. Some of these
riders have already produced "non-negative" results, according to Anne Gripper,
director of the UCI's anti-doping program. "We have picked out six or seven
riders who are considered high-risk cases because of their suspect behaviour and
subsequent good performances inthe Tour de France," she told the press agency
Belga. Some of these riders "have already had three or four unannounced doping
controls," although the UCI only requires one per rider per year.

Gripper said that "We have information that they train in strange places." The
controllers refer to the riders as the "Men in Black", because they wear neutral
clothing on their training rides, ra ther than their team kit, which helps them
avoid attention by the UCI controllers.

"Some of the results may well be announced before the start of the Tour de
France," Gripper said. "Several abnormal results have already come in. We are
busy with those results and not all of them are negative," she said, "but it
will take time, because we have to respect the process, the analysis of the B
samples, before we can make any announcements."

Unless the "UCI controllers" (whatever those might be) are hiding in the bushes
along popular training routes watching riders shoot up. Without the team kit
they can't tell who they have busted. Maybe they've got jersey recognition
software wired to security cameras to catch doping riders.

I have no idea why it would make a difference in doping control what color
jersey a guy wears. Do they drive around looking for riders in team kit, ram the
guys off the road and take blood and urine samples right there.

This whole thing is stupid, counterproductive and nonsensical. They need to
start testing for performance inhibiting drugs at the UCI home office.

The black kit Levi is wearing are some of those
Nike "10/2" LANCE shmattes.

Why should the UCI monitors pay attention to the
Men in Black from CN and their training ride kit?
They have an obligation to inform the anti-doping
agencies of their whereabouts for out-of-competition
tests. Beyond that, why should the UCI care if it
can keep track of these guys on their training rides?
Are they going to log hours in the saddle and see
if anyone is suspicious because they improved but
only put in 15 hours last week?

I'm not sure where Tom was going with this bit, but he did say that
occasionally agreeing with Tosi could make others think you're a
racist. It would take an incredibly teeny weeny brain to make that
leap.
Tosi had good knowledge of cycling and could add a lot to the
conversation, unfortunately it was wrapped in a really nasty package.
Agreeing with him on some cycling matters has nothing to do with his
views on other things.
I sure as hell considered Tosi to be racist and told him so. Maybe
he's got us mixed up. If so, I'm flattered.

Thanks! I only remember that Tosi and I agreed twice: once about the origins
of the anti-doping campaign and the second time when he wrote I didn't know
much about Italy and I answered he was right ... But someone sent me an
e-mail writing that Tom probably mixed me up with bjw@mambo ("Ben"), who in
a discussion about Guantanamo (to which both of us contributed as well)
suggested that Tom saw the prisoners in Gitmo as commodities. It doesn't
seem very likely (I don;t think he accused Tom of racism and I never adress
someone as dumbass - not even when he is one), but who knows?

You seem to be overly concerned about your image here Benjo. But in passing
I did see at least one person imply you were racist and others agree with
him. Whether or not he was mistaking you for Tosi I don't know since I
consider such statements (the like of which are commonly thrown around here)
to be patently absurd. For years I've been calling people Gay just to try to
get through to them that I have no idea what someone's sexual preferences
are and neither do they have the ability to be any more accurate about
someone else on virtually any other subject.

For instance - on this group Henry seems the worlds biggest jackass.
However, I was emailed by one of his board enemies saying that he's a nice
guy who tries to help everyone. If he is that different here as opposed to
in person how the hell can you ever expect to understand anything about
people you've only met through the filter of a newspaper article by someone
that didn't know that person either?

Oh please, quit while you're not so far behind. You spun up a strawman with Benjo
as the unwitting centerpiece in an attempt to express your scorn for liberals (or

I'm not concerned about my image in rbr (who could be?), but I'm curious. If
anybody implied I'm a racist and others agreed with him, I have missed it
completely and I can't find it nowhere. So again: where? when? by whom?

I didn't note the time and place and I erase the threads when they get old.
So you probably have as good a chance of finding it as I have. Remember they
didn't actually SAY racist, I recall that it was just an implication.

BTW, racism doesn't bother me in the least. I grew up in east Oakland in the
heart of an almost totally black neighborhood where every black under the
age of 40 hated whites just because they were white. That was OK but when
some old white postal worker got angry because blacks were being promoted
over him regardless of seniority he was racist.

Now weirdly enough, the older blacks who actually had been discriminated
against, sometimes quite severely, had very little problems with whites.
They would bend over backwards to help anyone. Now THAT was the way to end
racism, not crying about it.

In Britain, for many years, it was the convention if not the rule that any
rider not representing a club in a race must wear black. Of course, this
is neither funny nor does it support any bizarre conspiracy theory.
