Subject: NASCAR is a lot like bike racing
The first race of the year always turns into a crash-fest.

Seriously, did anyone else watch and notice that between yellows,
something eerily close to a 5-car breakaway from the pack seemed to be
forming?

Also, some have wondered how NASCAR deals with cheating.

Having found rocket fuel (not entirely a metaphor) in the intake
manifold (not at all a metaphor), they fined the team a bunch of money,
docked them championship points, and sent their crew chief home for the
week.

In the case of a technical violation (mechanical cockup caused car to
run low during qualifying), they gave a minor punishment (back of pack
start).

Also, I'm interested in this bike race in California I've heard so much
about.

It's cyclocross racing that is more comparable to F1 racing. They both
string out slowly but relentlessly. Passing is difficult but telling
when managed. The fastest usually ends up alone at the front of the
race. The pit techniques are very different however.

Would Schumacher dismount or bunnyhop? You're right with the F1 / 'cross
comparison, I think. The best cars start up front, just like the better riders do. The
way the field strings out does show who the best or most powerful. On the road, team
tactics and the dynamics of groups working together make it a very different scenario.

It's more like Formula 1 is a lot like bike racing. This year's Paris-

Shouldn't that be for the local tax-payers to decide? If every
municipality had the mind-set of no tax dollars for "entertainment",
there wouldn't be much in the way of arts/entertainment in any city,
and all government buildings would be plain, cinder-block
structures.

Actually, the state voted DOWN a new stadium for the Seattle iners.
So then the legislature and governor passed a bill to make it happen.

The voters (read: me) get to pay for it either way.

Ryan was correct.

And Richard Petty was in Olympia today shilling for the WA state gubmint
to pay for a new racetrack in Bellingham (or some god forsaken place) so
you can go watch in person! I'm pretty sure he mentioned you by name.
In the radio quote I heard, he said something about a "pain in the ass."

No doubt. That Richard Petty is totally stalking me. I think he may have
taken a cameo role in my favourite movie just to piss me off.

"Pain in the ass" sure sounds like The King, alright.

Also, taxpayer-funded entertainment facilities are a crock. Especially
when the bill is in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

Yeah, I never would have guessed that Richard Petty's obsession with you
would outlive that Smith woman's obsession with me.

Implicitly, this confirms that you had sex with him.

Is implicit sex better than explicit, or is that something you prefer not

C'mon Donald, I know you think enough like me to guess where I was headed.

What's the most disgusting, perverted, dirty, repulsive thing you can
think of? Think for a moment. That's what I was about to introduce to
this sub-thread in a sexual context. The NG would have been polluted for
generations. Just for a cheap laugh.

Did you get it? I know you did.

Now thank me.

If you can pollute this newsgroup for generations you're wasting your time
here. You should be working for Karl Rove.

Cheney posts to rbr ? This is just a little too mainstream for me, I think
I'll retire to Curtis's LIVEDRUNK(tm) cave in Pakistan, the one with the
