Subject: Nose plugs during warm up?

Watching the prologue and there was a guy warming up on the rollers and he had white tubes/plugs sticking out of his nose. I'm used to seeing the Breathe Right strips, but I don't know what those tubes/ plugs are for. Are they medicated to open the air passages or something? If so, with what? R

The application was fun, but I don't think I could do it riding a bike. R

I asked my nephew and he said there's either menthol or eucalyptus oil on the tubes - not plugs - to help clear the nasal passages. That makes sense to me. I wonder if they'll be banning menthol or eucalyptus oil... R

Cyclocross guys have done that forever, warmup with a wad of cotton or tissue up the nose with a drop of some oil on it. Think Vicks Vaporub for pro riders. Ron Ron Effect pedal demo's up at http://www.soundclick.com/ronsonicpedalry

I'm sure it does not work as advertised, but it might also get things flowing a little more freely in there, which might make you feel better for a few minutes afterward. -rj
