What if LeMond bicycles were to sponsor Slipstream?

It can't happen this year, as Slipstream's got a contract with Felt, but in
the future...

It seems like a perfect match, and would give Greg something positive to
talk about.

dumbass,

i'm not sure what you mean.

that cycling teams were always a vanity project for the rich ?

any company that can afford to sponsor a pro team will have a rich
boss (like oleg tinkov) but i would classify it as a vanity project if
it has low or negative return on investment.

dumbass,

what the fuck is "slipstream" ? oh it's nothing.

pro cycling is no longer a business or a means of exposure for a
business.

it's a vanity project for the ultra-rich, until they get bored of
bleeding money and go back to yachts, racehorses or art galleries.

Ever notice how many long term sponsors are "institutional" rather than
commercial (sorta wealthy guy's vanity project by proxy). There's a lot of
regional and national phone companies and most famously a national postal
service. None of those really need to a lot of results from their advertising.
The larger commercial sponsors seem to have become larger over the period of
sponsorship.

Some remain convinced that USPS was in the game because the exec's wanted a
really good excuse to summer in France.

Well, cycling is a great value, but a risky proposition,
sponsorship-wise. You get way more bang for your buck than you do with
TV ads (in terms of exposure, impressions, etc.) but you risk seeing
your logo on the front page of L'Equipe (or the LA Times) under the
headline "Rider Has 'Non-Negative' Result at Tour."

That's also a good reason to sponsor bike racing.

I think we underestimate how cheap bike-team sponsorship is for large
accounts, in terms of exposure. It's just that it's also reputational
Russian Roulette.
