ŒWe have an alternative Democratic foreign policy¹

Rep. Tom Lantos (D-Calif.), chairman of the House Foreign Relations
Committee, accompanied Speaker Pelosi and a bi-partisan House delegation to
the Middle East this week. Asked about the administration¹s criticism of
their trip, Lantos said, ³We have an alternative Democratic foreign policy.
I view my job as beginning with restoring overseas credibility and respect
for the United States.²

The notion that congressional Dems would formulate an alternative foreign
policy, which runs counter to the administration¹s, was not particularly
well received by Democratic critics. Kim Priestap put it succinctly: ³So a
Democrat admits it. Pelosi and the Democrats are purposefully defying not
only President Bush but the US Constitution as well.²

Soapbox rant:

Just ONE other example of pregressive hypocrisy: The same PRO-UNION (Like
UAW and others) That support $40+ per hour (counting numerous benefits) for
autoworkers that do jobs pegged at $15 hour in the real world are the same
assbags buying everything BUT cars from Chrysler/Ford GM but prefer to blame
the salary of a CEO instead for financial difficulties??

Rant off...

Boy, Pelosi really pisses you off, doesn't she?

Take comfort in this: I know Hillary Clinton. I worked with Hillary
Clinton. Nancy Pelosi is no Hillary Clinton.

I guess the concept of independent thinkers with more than two working
synapses scares him off.

What about the Republican delegation to Syria? Any comment on that?

Hell, how about the Republican who was along with Pelosi? BTW, the Rep
delegation actually spent a fair amount of time criticising GWB's policies - Pelosi
made no comments on the admin,;s policies. Of course, Stevie won't have any comment
on Dennis Hastert in '97:

"In 1997, Rep. Dennis Hastert (R-IL) led a delegation to Colombia at a time when
U.S. officials were trying to attach human rights conditions to U.S. security
assistance programs. Hastert specifically encouraged Colombian military officials
to ³bypass² President Clinton and ³communicate directly with Congress.²
--
"Rarely were the U.S. diplomatic personnel in our embassy in Bogata consulted
about the ³U.S.² position in these negotiations, and in a number of instances they
were excluded from or not even made aware of the meetings."

Or Gingrich:

"But as Speaker himself in May of 1998, Gingrich aggressively inserted himself
into American foreign policymaking abroad when he took a high-powered Congressional
delegation to Israel. He openly denounced the White House's Middle East policies
and made public comments in direct defiance of the White House. Right before his
trip he even described then-Secretary of State Madeleine Albright as an "agent for
the Palestinians.""
