Hey has anyone ever seen this? I just found the link. Now here's a new
way to use your old race numbers! http://www.11gear.us/11g.html

Of course. He's totally indiscriminate in his dumbassery - an equal

That's nuthin'. I've been called gay by Tom, an idiot by Tom, racist
by Tom, traitorous by Tom, a liar by Tom, ... and that's not an
exhaustive list. I wear them as a badge of honor.

This is right, but not quite sufficient. Changing the subject isn't
the same thing as rehabilitation. No one gives a rat's ass that
Sheldon Brown, or Jacobouwsky, or Muzi, or Peter Chisholm, or
Sheffield, or Hickey before he ran off, occasionally point out stuff
they were sellling that might be of interest to us. There are two
reasons: first, they were up-front about it. Second, they stuck around
even when they weren't selling anything, and added content to the
group. If Rick wants to run away now, the last memory we have (and, as
I pointed out, Usenet has a long memory) will be of an untrustworthy
retailer. If he sticks around and adds content to the group, the bad
memory will eventually get replaced by good memory. That's how he
should rehab his rep. Be a man, stick around, and add value.

You still don't get it. You are the messenger _and_ the message.
That's how it works. You tried to separate the two as if that would
somehow matter to anyone. If you have a good product (you seem to -
though I think it's overpriced (no doubt due to your local labor
costs), and you're straightforward in your dealing with people, you'll
sell them.

Think of it this way - if you'd done this on eBay you'd have 50% or
more negative feedback and no one in their right mind would buy from
you. You'd have to change user IDs.

Let this thread die, start another one - starting fresh - and we'll
all be proud of you. Your sales will sky rocket, you'll have a killer
IPO, hang out at Jeff Bezos house and be implicated in some nightclub
scandal with Paris Hilton.

Hi, Ron. I sort of understood that earlier. I appreciate your telling
me again though in a tone that is considerably more civil. I agree
with you. I have put my sock puppet in the drawer, so to speak.

BTW Ron what do you think of the race number windbreaker? I've only
gotten one or two comments before the "shoot the messenger" thing
kicked in.

Mark! whoah. Yes it's me. Did you used to race for SBCC? I thoroughly
enjoyed your blog. Yeah Nevada City used to be the show that's for
sure. I never had any good results at that race other than a prime.
You are so right you need to train for that one. One year I trained
for it with Larry Shields and Chris Jordan and broke their legs in
training. But race day rolled 'round and I couldn't hang with the
leaders. Something about no recovery before max exertions. That plus
we had those crappy Shimano AX brakes that year. NCC is a race where
good braking can make a difference. Your Garmin data was impressive.
Looked like it hurt for sure.
Best,

Yes, but not way back then.

Nevada City is still an incredible race, maybe one of the longest
continuously-running events in the US (?) and it's a shame it doesn't still
have some kind of National Calendar status. That doesn't stop some really
good guys from showing up however!

I planned not to say anything until you accused me of
cutting you slack. I am not giving you a break. You are
dishonest. I looked at the page and considered the
novelty of having one of those jerseys, then saw they
are $74. You are dishonest and a price gouger.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention, it had almost slipped by me.

In my time in this newsgroup, I have been called a homo by TK, a dumbass
by Henry and the Copycats, accused of nepotism by Curtis and of
polluting this newsgroup for centuries to come by Donald. NOBODY before
has ever had the temerity to accuse me of cutting someone some slack.
Where does this guy think he is? I am gravely concerned!

I strained to come up with a list of insults that would pale in
comparison to "cutting someone some slack". I can only say that, as
concerns the truth, liberties were taken.

The sad fact is, I couldn't remember a single real insult from anyone in
this NG. I don't even recall if Henry has actually called me a dumbass.
He must have, right?

If you want insults, they are easily obtained in rbt.

Having thought about this some more, I now recall exchanging insults
with one person where I truly, honestly believed them to be retarded or
crazy or something. Everything they said was spun and twisted so much
that reality had no influence. Even when they were correct, it was for
the wrong reasons. That was Brian Lafferty, back in the days before I
became a cartoon character.

So I'm pleased to have come up with something suitable to compare with
the insult of "cutting some slack", at long last.

Yah know as a participant you'd be welcome here - obviously an interesting
outlook to offer the products you've got. A lot of the people posting here have
something to sell as well. The difference is, they are honest about it.

"Dudes, check out this great new website I found!" is no more persuasive than
"Dudes, I make this killer stuff. I sure can understand lying to avoid trouble
and even outright fraud makes its own shortsighted sense. But why not be square
when offering a perfectly legitimate product for sale to a probable audience.
There are rules and customs that regulate and restrict spamming. The use of a
sock puppet doesn't waive any of them. Makes it worse, even.

Mostly, the sock puppet sale pitch has been done so damn long and often it's
become sort of insulting.
