Absolutely. I hope the video from the finish line camera becomes
available somewhere. For those who did not see it, that offered a
truly amazing perspective showing the bulk of the leaders SLIDING
across the finish at speed, one after another.

Agreed. But that one involved a corner and wet pavement. This one was
a straight line finish, no contact, no pileup, no collisions with
barriers, no erratic behavior - just a a lot of spontaneous crashing
and LONG slides. It must have been slicker than ... (complete
metaphor with your favorite term here).

how about slicker than a sidewalk in january....

i've never had the hydroplane experience but have seen it and other
people i know have had it...one friend of mine hydroplaned on his behind
while riding his cross bike on a rainy day, slid into a street pole but
wasn't badly hurt...

that whole giro scene should have had the soundtrack of bowling pins
over it....LOL...

Thanks. I found this:
http://www.media.rai.it/mpmedia/0,,Sport%5E25528,00.html

And while that covers it (jump to about ~3:11), it does not include
the spectacular view from the road level camera looking across the
finish line that was repeated numerous times during the live coverage.

You'll find it in "Ultimo Chilometro" in Rai3.

i just saw that... eeek! It was one of the craziest finish line crashes
i'd seen since the one that took out mario cipollini a few years ago,
except that this one had more victims. One of the commentators
says,"Mamma mia!" as you hear sirens and ambulances... it turned into a
scene from ER! I think the Euskatel guy broke his collarbone. Most of
them probably lost skin and their shorts from sliding on their
backsides... it sounds funny but we all know it hurts like **&^ the next
day. I wonder how many will bail.I think Bettini might decide to drop
out, even if he's not that badly hurt, if he wants to do the Tour.
