Anyone know what the state-by-state distribution is of USCF license
holders?

I tried googling and looking on the usacycling.org site, no luck.

Thanks, JP

Thanks!

Interesting states.

Well, it looks like the sunny-warm states are doing pretty darn good.

I'm used to the USCF being the only game in town. Is there another
major race org out there these days (years)? Are their numbers far
less, stronger in certain regions?

See RBR.

Maybe start with road.

This data is a year old. Uses end of 2005 numbers. Any record
missing gender, category or not in 1 of the 50 states or DC, was
removed so the totals will be slightly less.

http://www.bikeiowa.org/misc/table1.html
http://www.bikeiowa.org/misc/table3.html
http://www.bikeiowa.org/misc/table4.html

I did this analysis to compare cat 5 percentages in my state with the
others. It is high because of so many new licensees.

I also noticed the higher percentages of cat 1 are in certain states
like CO and OR where they have their own local orgs. Its not
necessarily that the riders are better or worse, the higher cats tend
to travel more and would need a USAC license to compete in most other
states whereas the beginners tend to stay near home and can enter all
the local races without needing a USAC license so this skews the
categories higher. And some states have so few racers, the
percentages are pretty much meaningless.

The return to 'all licenses expire dec 31' in 2005 means we can get
accurate counts now. The previous 365 day licenses meant the numbers
could go up or down daily.

Who said I'm not going to? Define it how you like. I'd say that event
participants would work, plus license holders from the main (2 or 3?)
groups.

Not that hard. Anyone out there SELLING to these people knows how many
there are per state.

I'm not picky and I'm no one's boss.

Anyone else wonder how many racers there are per state? In each main
org? Unaffiliated? Gung-ho buyers of raceware? Got any data?

To the crowd here it defines "cool". These guys actually believe themselves
to be intelligent and suave - haven't you seen the endless postings about
"lifedrunk"?

When you meet them in person it's all you can do not to burst out laughing
in their faces.

Dumbass: I know you're misspelling "LIVEDRUNK" just to piss me off.

It's not working. My hockey team just won, and my new CX frame is in the
kitchen.

You don't understand. The Canucks entered the league in 1970. Since
then, they have been in the Stanley Cup Finals every twelfth season.

But, and this is the important part, they've always played a team from
New York!

With the strike cancelling one season, 2006-2007 is the 36th season. The
cup is foreordained by, like, the Mayan Calendar or something.

Living room. Do dogs usually antagonize bike frames? The better question
is where I'm going to live if I don't get the bike parts (and computer
parts...) out of the house pretty soon.

It turns out, according to some members of my household (not the dog)
that bike frames aren't supposed to be kept in the kitchen!

That's crazy talk, but she did buy me a 4-pack of Guinness for Easter,

I'm shaped like a fire hydrant, and about 2.5 fire hydrants tall. On my
road bike, the stem is tilted up, and the bars are nearly level with my
saddle.

On the CX bike, I'll probably run about the same position, since I use
'cross levers for control in technical sections, which makes the tops a
very normal place to ride from.

CX levers are great,

How many racers are in each state.

Doesn't seem like too tough of a map to make.

Yeah, we don't have to limit it to license holders, although that
would be a nice, easy break-out to include.

Dumbass,

If you are not going to define 'racer', the map is impossible
to make. And once you do define 'racer' it is still not going
to be easy because of the large number of racing organizations
and the degree of membership overlap.

Don't expect much help until you know what you are asking for.

Way too awkward.

I just wanted to see a map showing how many racers were where.

If someone might give me a password, then they should just put the
darn info up on the homepage.

20 years ago, USCF membership would give you that. It doesn't
anymore. There are thousands of people that race their brains
out every weekend and never hold a license of any kind. Over
the course of a season I'll bet there are at least 2000 more
than occasional racers showing up to Wisport and WORS races
that don't carry a license of any kind and that is just
Wisconsin. Peak USCF membership here was 600 something and
that has almost certainly dropped even as total race entries
expanded.

There were 2939 ACA license holders in CO in 2006. That's the number
you need if you're trying to judge the size of the racing population
in CO.

I can't seem to find it, either, but I know I've seen it in the past.
My recollection is that California had the most licensed riders, with
Texas second. These two states were a good ways ahead of the rest of
the pack, and with population trends and climate factors, I expect it
hasn't changed.
