I am told that their senior management is mostly in favor of opting
out of cycling but will make a final decision by the end of the week.

dumbass,

it isn't "sad".

as an athlete he will be forgiven, as all athletes in his situation
are. this would not be true if he was a lawyer or a doctor or a
stockbroker found guilty of some analogous professional misconduct.

according to cnews he was paid $700,000 this year, that is a lot of
money for a 27 yr old to make and he is only 27. many MBAs, lawyers,
doctors are still in school at that age.

he has enough time and money to do something with his life if he
doesn't return to pro cycling.

he is stupid (as is jaksche and the '96 telekom stars), the fans do
get a certain satisfaction when athletes "come clean", but
professionally it makes sense to deny the charges (unless you're being
questioned in a criminal case).

it is clearly less damaging to a career to serve a suspension and come
back as so many have done.

How pathetically sad:

SPIEGEL: You're hoping for leniency. Why are you so determined to get
back into cycling?

Sinkewitz: I don't know how to do anything else.

He's not only screwed, he's delusional. Who'd possibly hire him
besides Slipstream? How many races do you think he could complete
before somehow he inadvertantly crashed into a pole or plummeted over
a cliff?

That is kind of sad. This bit is interestin: "Everyone told me to be
honest and put my cards on the table. It hasn't helped me so far. I'm
more than just somebody who sinned by doping. I'm the defendant in a
crime. But telling the truth is also liberating. I don't have to hide
anything anymore."

Maybe this was the tipping point:

I know this isn't really related, but I heard that Lindsay Lohan
is switching to AT&T Wireless because AT&T has more bars in more places.

(Yes, I made that up myself and just had to tell it. Not quitting my
day job.)

It's good that unlike Sinkewitz, you know how to do something else.
