MAN! Did you look at the results? Not only was grey haired and wrinkled
Thurlow Rogers racing but so is Eric Wohlberg!

This says a whole lot about racing bicycles if a couple of guys with this
vintage can finish 76th and 20th respectively.

Though I'm not exactly clear what it's saying.

In this specific case, it won't help. But: nice effort.

Tom, those two are not normal guys. Thurlow has a freakishly good natural
aerobic engine (and I say that partly because as a junior he was beating
Lemond in TTs when they were both training and racing at equivalent levels).
Sure his engine has degraded some now that he is 47, but it's still good
enough to be competitive against many of the US D3 pros who don't have the
same level of natural ability. Wohlberg, otoh, trains harder and longer than
most of the rest of those D3 guys.

And those two aren't the only "gray-jersey" contenders at Redlands... you've
also got Tilford, John Hunt, and of course, Moninger.

The point is that some guys can still be competitve into their 40's with a
combination of natural talent and very good training, with a big emphasis on
the latter. The kids in their early-to-mid 20's just don't have enough years
in a row of hard training and racing to have reached their potential.

I just explained it to you.

Another Kunich Classic....
"Though I'm not exactly clear what it's saying."

When a 40 year old is winning Redlands.....it's sad state of affairs.
Scott is a great guy, but there is no way that he should be winning if
there is any domestic talent worth a crap racing Redlands.
Those young guys should be ashamed to have their ass handed to them by
a guy that is almost twice their age.
