I'm watching the French game show "Attention a la Marche". One of the skill testing questions was: Which Spanish cyclist won the 2007 Tour de France? Neither contestant had any idea. To understand the level though, one of them responded to: Who was the French leader from 1940 to 1944? with Charles de Gaulle. -ilan

Well le grand Charlot did hang out in the York Minster Pub in Dean Street Soho London and proclaimed himself leader of the Free French. The posters & photos are still there, although Gaston the moustachioed landlord is long gone.
