http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/news?slug=hyltonftr&prov=st&type=lgns (quoting): Senior citizen Hylton seeks spot in Daytona 500 DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA (TICKER) -- James Hylton considered approaching NASCAR officials and asking if he could put flashers on the back of his Chevrolet Monte Carlo at Daytona International Speedway. He wasn't kidding. "I'd have them blinkers on the whole time," Hylton said. At 72, Hylton is the oldest driver ever to attempt to make the field for the Daytona 500. (end quote) If you care to read on, he's not a beginner. "Endorsed by Tony Stewart". Maybe I _didn't_ pick the right sport. --D-y

Heard some really horrible stuff a few weeks ago in an extended radio interview about the condition of a lot of 60's and 70's NFL players who played before the real money hit and are really hurting. A bunch of these guys are the ones that founded the NFL Players Association and get next to nothing in the way of help from the ones who got mega rich on their work and sacrifice. Both the League and the Union need to step up and give this handful of people medical care and a liveable pension to carry them while those who retired after their efforts live like kings. A few players are trying to something without the league or Union. http://jerrykramer.com/ggaf-fact-sheet.html Bill C

He was signed to a one- game contract by the Detroit Vipers of the IHL and, almost 70 years old, made a return to the ice for one shift. http://sports.espn.go.com/minorlbb/news/story?id=2516986 Strikeout makes man, 83, oldest pro baseball player Maybe we could talk Merckx into making a comeback he could ride with his kid like Roger Clemmens played with his. Found this to: http://www.thehistorychannel.co.za/site/this_day_in_history/this_day_June_17.php 1945 French champion cyclist Eddie Merckx - five times winner of the Tour De France. Didn't know he'd been relocated ;-) Bill C
