Without Lance, American interest in pro-cycling will dive to the level
of lawn-darts and Bocce. Lance was unique, because he was a cancer
survivor. Being a cancer survivor gave the average guy a reason to overcome
his natural hatred of cyclists, and become a fan of the sport. But now
Lance is gone, and people are reverting back to the days when they just
hated cyclists, and if you even talked about cycling they would cover their
ears with their hands, and yell something like "I'm not listening." It's
over folks, why fight it, watch the professional putt-putt tour and be
happy.

There was an American interest in pro-cycling? The sale of lawn darts here
in the US has been banned since 1988 and lawn-darts are still more popular
here in the US than pro-cycling ever was or ever will be; with or without
Lance.

Really? I never saw lawn darts on TV.

If lawn darts were not banned, and there were FILD (Fédération
Internationale de Lawn Darts) Championships being held, OLN would drop its
TdF coverage and instead cover the FILD Championships. You know it's true.

I'm just sayin'.

Can anyone suggest why they would change their name from OLN to Versus if
they weren't planning on being the WWF channel?

Oops. That's right, Versus - not OLN. Still wishing Versus was OLN of
several years ago. Sigh.

Well, first of all, lawn darts is a great way to get rid of cousins
you don't like and make it look like an accident. If he doesb't like
you either, it can be a very interesting game.

Two cousins of mine were involved in an incident. They
and some others made spears from broom sticks and mill
files. One, not my cousins, caught a spear in the head
and perished. I was making very effective bows and
arrows at age eight. I hope the youth of today are not
going soft and lazy, relying on ready made firearms.

Actually, when my brother was 11 and I was 13, we were into bamboo
spears with nails for heads. Still have a small scar just over my eye
from my brother - and I had justed started wearing eyeglasses a few
weeks earlier. Later he went primitive and broke my nose with a rock -
the first official break. OTOH, I think he is still a few behind, so
I'm still careful when he is in the area.
