I still am a big Laurent Fignon fan. Mainly for his riding. But sometimes he says things that are classy too: [about Greg LeMond saying Fignon would have won the 1989 Tour of France if Fignon had used aero bars] "it was nice of Greg to say that, but the truth is we both used our weapons. I was slightly stronger in the mountains, he was a better time trialist. And the difference was eight seconds, voilą" From http://www.cyclingnews.com/news.php?id=news/2007/jul07/jul18news3 -- JT **************************** Remove "remove" to reply Visit http://www.jt10000.com ****************************

He had been storming all spring and was the odds on favorite to win the Tour which he lost by only 8 seconds! He was the absolute best rider for the entire year and yet the loss he took was far more important to him than all of the wins. Maybe Davey should give Laurent a good swift kick in the butt. In Fignon's stupidest day he still had 100 times the class of LeMond. Not knocking LeMond you understand but pointing out that Fignon was smarter than most cyclists and yet allowed himself to be disturbed by the one constant in bicycle racing - a loss.

Actually at the time Fignon was devastated. Remember too that he had a 50 second lead going into the final time trial and lost 58 seconds on the day to Lemond which was incredible for Fignon on such a short course. Additionally, Thierry Marie, who was second on the day was also 25 seconds faster than Fignon although Thierry Marie was a Prologue/Time Trial specialist notwithstanding his Paris-Roubaix win as an amateur. http://www.velo-club.net/article.php?sid=5839 -- Davey Crockett - No 4Q to Reply Vote BNP today in the By-Election for Tony Bliar's vacant seat. The Labour Candidate has AirBrushed his Partner out of the Campaign Glossies - We have to wonder why? Why not phone and ask him? And the poor Lib-Dems had to switch horses in mid stream because their Candidate of Choice, Karl Lindon, who campaigned for the Lib Dems on Gay and Lesbian issues was recently jailed for three years for sharing the 2,500 indecent images of children on his computer with a ring of 47 online paedophiles.
