Alan Atwood and my club are putting on a race in May and registration
opened today at noon. The cat 4 races filled (with 100 riders) in
about 11minutes.

And there were over 200 riders total in less than 9 hours:

I see USAC has some new promoter rules this year. $500 fine for
accepting entries before the permit is applied for. No sign of the
race on USAC's events list.

And? The juxtaposition of the two sentences appears to suggest you
think an event not on the events list is equivalent to one where the
promoter has not applied for a permit. If you believe this to be true,
you must never have been either a promoter or an official handling
permits at any level.

Now the day that they fine promoters for taking entry fees before the
permit is approved and sent back better be a few days after they get
the whole process bullet-proof and down pat (the last was gratuitously
added for old Nixon haters).

You need a crappier website, too. That would help at least a little.

I do the site and am trying to mess it up.

If you folks would just do something besides run a great race, on a
fantastic course you could avoid that.

Chump-change! Here in Norway there is an annual 89km MTB p-t-p race
that limits the field to 13,000 starters. This year the online
registration filled all the places in under 30 minutes. And at a price
of $100 each. Sick.

35$ sounds about right. I hope there's a climb near the beginning to
stretch out the field. A pack of 100 cat 4 sounds scary...

You're-not-charging-enough!!

<g >

Congrats. Ah, the first race of the year, in the cold. Gasping for
breath, that nasty taste in your mouth, and some SOB who went to
Arizona for a month to train goes up the road.

The Test of Metal is a point-to-point mountain bike race in Squamish,
held yearly in late June..

Field is limited to 800 and it took 48 minutes to fill up this year
when they opened registration at 6:00PM on January 1st. Waiting list
was capped at 500.
