OK, I caught the coverage of the hail on VS. I didn't see any broken bikes, but the stuff was pretty nasty. One guy lifted his jersey to show the bruises and it looked like he'd been pelted by golf balls. Now I'm satisfied. R

I hope that settles once and for all that helmets are a necessity in bike racing. I'm a little disappointed by the size of the hail. It looks pea sized not golf ball sized. R

I watched the race on DSF and I can assure you that the severity of the hail was not exaggerated. Several riders were shown holding large pieces of ice against cuts and bruises. I recorded the program to DVD but I can't think of a way to get pics to you all. Suggestions?

The hail was so strong all the cameras were broken. Or the stage was canceled so early all the photographers hadn't finished their pastis and cigarettes yet to get on the motos. Go to http://www.tds.ch/ click on "Bildergalerien" under 2007 on the left click on 6. Etappe and it will pop up a window with some small images. or try http://www.tds.ch/slideshow/radsport/20070621/11078/photo_1.htm http://www.tds.ch/slideshow/radsport/20070621/11078/photo_5.htm (A rider with a flat reaches the safety of his team vehicle) http://www.tds.ch/slideshow/radsport/20070621/11078/photo_7.htm Ben
