Reading the blog, it seems they were trying to wash poison ivy from
the bikes. A rash decision if you ask me.

I know a guy who did that with his bike at cross nationals which was
understandable . Then he neglected to take the bike out of the travel
box until he needed it the next season. That thing needed some work.
