Subject: AeroRider anyone?
|
Hi all, I'm in a situation where I am looking at needing a second car. This has me thinking. I currently ride a Trice Classic to work in nice weather. I wonder about getting something like the aeroRider instead of a second car. Has anyone here any experence of these? Even a site with a good review would be nice. I have searched but all anyone seems to have is a copy of bits from the AeroRider site. Everso

(I am in the UK) Oops! The one in Washington is on the wrong continent. Sorry to confuse you. Chris

There is an AeroRider for sale in Washington I saw on BROL classified. My Yahoo has so many new connections that I found links (several velomobile) and snuck in the back door of about 10 groups (some unavailable before with too many restrictions). I haven't found specific ride reports of the AeroRider, but weight & speed of several velomobiles are being discussed at IHPVA / VELOMOBILES, one is an AeroRider I think. Chris Jordan Santa Cruz, CA.

The reasons for the Aerorider being favorite at the moment are : Rider fully enclosed - with the option to ride topless in summer. Built in Europe (I am in the UK) Electric assist as standard (essential if I am going to use it every day). Can be used on bike paths & live in a shed. Roloff available (minimum maintenance) Large luggage space. Seems to be one with most of the chain path enclosed (it's that maintenance thing again. Now - if anyone can put me right on any of the above points and point out something better... :) Everso

At www.alleweder.de there's a rather clever electro-assist for the Alleweder, but it is in the same price range as the Aerorider, and not nearly as sexy! Cab-bike make a motorized trailer. >Roloff available (minimum maintenance) Most Velomobiles can be ordered with Rohloff or retrofitted with one. Methinks the Versatile chain is even better protected > >Now - if anyone can put me right on any of the above points and point >out something better... :) I'm seriously considering an Aerorider myself; it's 34 (mostly very flat) miles to work, so now I take the trike (20 year old proto-velomobile) 3 days out of five. With an assisted all-weather bike I could get rid of the car, I hope. So far the options seem to be: -Aerorider: comfortable, well thought out (clever electronics), but heavy and unproven. -electro-Alleweder: simple, mature design. -open trike with home made fairing and alleweder like electro-assist: lots of work, but could be much lighter. Either slower on assist, or illegal though. k van Gorkom. P.S.: my expirience with the Aerorider is limited to two short test rides.
