A while back there was a discussion of proper headgear while riding, and I commented that I was pondering acquiring a western sun hat such as this- > http://www.villagehatshop.com/sunbody_gus.html ....because the only reason I have found I needed a helmet anymore is to prevent sunburns at the hairline, or where the sweatband rubs off the sunscreen on my forehead. When I dared to post my aspirations, some doubted the practicality of such costume for the activity at hand. --------- Behold!! -a screen shot of a page from the Challenge website: http://www.norcom2000.com/users/dcimper/assorted/inanities/recumbent/general/stuff/common.html alternate if above gets mangled: http://tinyurl.com/2nkdlr (I had to use a screenshot, because the top image starts randomly and then rotates through a selection each time you refresh the page) Note our two intrepid riders, wearing very-obviously-non-bicycling hats. Shockingly enough- One has even taken off their helmet, in order to wear their hat (I should post this to the cycling advocacy board at BikeForums, just to see all the ninnies go into pissy-fits). PLUS, they are riding on the wrong side of the road!!! PLUS PLUS, the rider on the right may very well be riding NAKED, what with all the clothing draped over the rear pack. There's no frontal shot in the mix, so perhaps we may never know. -------- What with this latest development, I plan to resume with my alternate-headgear riding aspirations (-as for the riding naked thing, I would first need to find and buy another much smaller hat-). ~

Don't you have 4 or 5 days a year in the UK where sun hats would be appropriate? -- Tom Sherman - Holstein-Friesland Bovinia A Real Cyclist [TM] keeps at least one bicycle in the bedroom. -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com

So fa anyway My two cents - because I also sail - sun protection is high on my list From the other discussion I'd like to remark that BullFrog is the bes sunscreen I have found. Even for a copious sweater like myself it work far longer than the other brands. BIG PLUS it does not seem to attrac wasps, bees and hornets like some brands For head wear, check out these. I wear the adams beachcomber (sailing and the extreme vacationer (yard work) both to a good job of su protection and once soaked with sweat the back flap even provides som cooling See these and other sailing tested (read: can handle wind) headwea here http://www.coralreefsailing.net/hats_main?start= This site often has wicking shirts with collars for sale too. A reall fun thing to wear to a DF dominated weekend ride. Collars seem to se them off almost as much as a comfortable bicycle!: -- Hull 697
