Some of you may well ask why Ed Dolan the Great continues to hang around these freaking cycling newsgroups (all one word) when he has such contempt for the lot of you. Well, it is all due to Tom Sherman of ARBR. I value intellect above all else. Tom Sherman has that and he also has the courage to expound his views. His liberal views do not bother me in the slightest since I once held all those views myself, perhaps even more extreme than him. Yea, I read Marx and Lenin and Engles and was bamboozled by what I had read. It took me many years to overcome those childish illusions. It mainly happened when I lived in NYC in the 60's and witnessed first hand how all the scofflaws gamed the Great Society of Lyndon Johnson. I do not regard Tom Sherman as an enemy at all but as a true antagonist with whom I can connect. Even his defense of Ed Gin, the most notorious criminal vandal troll who ever ruined a newsgroup, was mainly due to his loyalty to a friend, so this is not totally reprehensible. Of course, he should have defended the newsgroup, but still I can see his loyalty to a friend. I cannot stay on these cycling newsgroups unless I occasionally encounter an intellectual like Tom Sherman. Idiots are not interesting at all. But I am not going to let any of them have the last word regardless. But it is only due to Tom Sherman that I stay here at all. Despite what he may think I will defend him if and when he ever comes under attack from an idiot. He knows more about recumbents than anyone, even including Robert Bryant, the editor of RCN (Recumbent Cyclist News). He is a pleasure to read when he is talking about recumbents. ARBR would be next to nothing without him. Regards, Ed Dolan the Great - Minnesota aka Saint Edward the Great - Order of the Perpetual Sorrows - Minnesota

This is pure rubbish. Ed isn't here because of Tom. He is here for himself. and because he has nothing better to do with his time. and because he enjoys seeing his gibberish in print, the writer's equivalent of liking the sound of his own voice. If he were here just for Tom, then when Tom appeared to have left ARBR and hadn't posted in many months, he would not have stayed on. Instead of departing himself, Ed made numerous "Where's Tom Sherman" posts. The archives stand in testimony. Ed was obviously convinced that Tom had left for good and yet he remained with much weeping and gnahing of teeth over Tom's absence, so don't buy any of his bullshit as to why he is here. We know why he's here and I suspect that he knows that we know why he's here. The peculiar thing is that Ed Dolan writes quite often about the proximity of his imminent demise and yet inexplicably squanders the time he has remaining spewing nonsense in cyberspace forums. Hells Bells, I have been talking to myself all of my life, but it is such a pleasure to get someone like Tom Sherman who will talk back to my mutterings. He is yin to my yang. The reason why he succeeds in interesting me is because he will occasionally take me on with some intelligence, something the rest of you are incapable of doing. > The peculiar thing is that Ed Dolan writes quite often about the > proximity of his imminent demise and yet inexplicably squanders the > time he has remaining spewing nonsense in cyberspace forums. Nonsense, when you have a really good enemy like Tom Sherman, then you have a true friend. I don't know anyone else I have been fighting with for over 4 years who will still speak to me. Yea, he is a friend for sure! Regards, Ed Dolan the Great - Minnesota aka Saint Edward the Great - Order of the Perpetual Sorrows - Minnesota

There is plenty to observe, however. Without dark there is no distinction called light. Everything would simply be the same. The part about other people being mirrors in which we can perceive aspects of ourselves resonates for me as well. When we say that we are all one it does not mean that we are undifferentiated. If that were the case then the entire universe as we are able to know it wouldn't exist. As long as there is an I that can distinguish itself from you then we have the whole ball of wax. Where it all came from and where it is all going, I haven't a clue but I'm pleased to be along for the ride. Thanks for the opportunity to reflect. Jeff Note: I wish I could claim these ideas as my own original thought but, alas, I can not. These ideas came to me from Alan Watts who is possible the greatest philosopher of our time.

All that matters is that we take from others whatever is worth taking and then give it our own spin. Hells Bells, that is all any of us can ever do.
