Subject: Estimated SWB recumbent frame weight
What is the typical weight of a SWB recumbent frame? I know it varies
with size and materials not to mention design. But total recumbent
bike weights are affected by choice of components and wheels, even
accessories. I lwould like to isolate the weight penalty of the frame
cf standard road bikes.

Hmmm, maybe 1kg over a "diamond" upright. Add weight of seat and steering
mechanism and perhaps you've got 3kg over an upright in equivalent
materials.

On any bike that's ridden more than walking distance from home (call it
5km) I carry about 3kg in tools, lock, pump, waterproof, camera, food
& water. So the 'bent going to the shops weighs less than an upright
going out for the whole day. OTOH the lightest upright going to the shops
is a real featherweight, but I have to remind myself not to go too far
from home...
