Since no one else has posted anything about this yet, I think I will. Upright teams bested both recumbent teams in this year's RAAM and undoubtedly that will serve to fuel future arguments regarding which is the faster platform ... the upright or the recumbent. Rregardless, congratulations are in order for a very respectable showing by Team Bacchetta who convincingly defeated the so-called "fastest stock bike in the known universe". Now, Ed Gin, Johnny NoCom and the rest of the unruly MONKEYS rather than having something to crow about will have to eat a much deserved portion of crow instead. I'd suggest that a big piece of humble pie be served up for desert. For the time being at least, no one should not have to endure any more VeloKraft ... NoCom nonsense. The rabid NoCom zealots had their opportunity to put up or shut up and now it is time for the latter. The RAAM statistics (http://www.raceacrossamerica.org/Default.aspx?tabid=151) speak for themselves, so there is nothing more to add, but NoCom-ment ;^)

Not to put too fine a point on it but recumbents DO hold all of the outright speed records. Pretending that this year's RAAM results somehow clear the issue up isn't very helpful.

And neither largely is RAAM much about the bike. Analysis of RAAM team/individual performance characteristics might shed some *light* about bikes and riders, but perhaps we can do without the *heat*. RAAM is all about human endurance and little else. There was an older fellow from this area (NW Iowa) who did the ride last year and it damn near killed him. But he made it to the finish line and feels justified in the sight of man and God. I think anyone who does RAAM is just plain crazy and if they suffer loss of life or limb, then it serves them right. Nature does not suffer fools gladly. Ed Dolan the Great - Minnesota
