As a subscriber, regular lurker, and rare poster to ARBR, I want to thank the knowledgeable 'bent enthusiasts who take the time to sort through the irrelevant postings on ARBR and respond, with authority, to the core issues-- 'bent issues. I quickly lose interest the discussions in which an anonymous primate with a keyboard plugs a vacuous site, or where a Minnesotan responds to a New Yorker's inquiry about bike shops. Yet there are guys who manage to ignore the static and answer, with clearly evident experience and knowledge, the recumbent bicycle questions which occasionally appear here. Tom Sherman comes to mind, as do Larry, Guy, Zach, Joshua, and many, many more. Remember Cletus? Beth the Musher? I have watched as one "special" person after another has used this forum for peculiar purposes unrelated to 'bents. Most have wandered away, not a minute too soon. Thanks to all you 'bent folk who hang in here (in spite of the noise) and contribute wisdom where possible. Thanks for keeping ARBR alive and useful. dale

I blame Beth "Alaskan Recumbent Princess" Fleisher for locking Jeff "Blue biker" Cowan away in her basement. ;) -- Tom Sherman - Fox River Valley

It was nothing but a liberal love feast. The few conservatives were easily disposed of. They were simply ganged up on. It was not until the Great Ed Dolan came on the scene that we finally got some fair and balanced contention. Regards, Ed Dolan - Minnesota

This is a very nice spot at which to jump in and take issue with Dale. It is really not very interesting for the general reader on a newsgroup to just have a question and answer session. I added to that topic by expanding on it. My message is also pregnant with other subjects which could easily be brought into play by anyone with some imagination and a spark of life. I feel sorry for Dale if he thought that all that should have been said is the specific answer to the specific question. Obviously, Dale and I inhabit different universes. By the way, this Minnesotan lived in New York City for several years and knows something about the streets and the traffic conditions that prevail there. I certainly do agree with Dale about the monkey plugging other vacuous sites. Yet there are guys who manage to ignore the static > and answer, with clearly evident experience and knowledge, the > recumbent bicycle questions which occasionally appear here. Tom > Sherman comes to mind, as do Larry, Guy, Zach, Joshua, and many, many > more. Remember Cletus? Beth the Musher? All of the above posters have been good on ARBR and I read them the same way you did. They all do very nicely in their limited fashion, but it is not enough for a newsgroup to thrive. I never interfere with on topic threads that are alive and well. Eventually though, like all conversation, things began to wander and then at that point I will sometimes jump in and add something else to the topic. It is what any intelligent person will do who is not a donkey. Cletus was fine up to a point, but he insisted like a dolt that we stay on topic 100% of the time. I understand he is now over at BROL and I think that is where Dale should be too. I would die of boredom there and I think Mr. Sherman would too. But for those who think a newsgroup is all about staying on topic 100% of the time, a moderated forum will work best for them. I have watched as one > "special" person after another has used this forum for peculiar > purposes unrelated to 'bents. Most have wandered away, not a minute > too soon.
