Subject: Need derailleur cables
Imagine my surprise when I bought a tandem derailleur cable for the rear
derailleur of my long wheel base recumbent and the cable was too short! It
is 3000 mm long, but is still too short. Can somebody give me a place to buy
a cable? I looked in Hostel Shoppe's catalog and even their cable wasn't any
longer than 3000 mm.

Since it's a QBP cable, your local bike shop should be able to order
it. There's a lot of shops that buy from Quality Bike Products.

Hmmm, when the rear derailleur cable on my Tour easy broke, I took
the cable in to my LBS (to compare for length). They had one
long enough in stock. What LWB do you have? 3000mm is 9.8
feet. How much longer cable do you need?

I presume in an emergency, one could fashion a splice somewhere in
the cable path and use two cables if a sufficiently long cable were not
available.

It's the Cycle Genius Raven. I need about 10-11" more length on the cable.

Wow, at side glance, it doesn't look like a longer cable run
than a Tour Easy... Glad you got a pointer to the 4500mm
QBP cable.

I carry a spare cable in my touring tool kit. Not long enough for the
rear run, but I always thought I could jury rig something to keep me
on the road. When the rear shifter cable broke, I wasn't touring and
was only a few miles from home, so going from 27 to only 3 gears
wasn't a major issue. %^)

I was luckier when I broke a spoke. I was only half a mile from home
and on my lightest bike. The fiber spoke emergency replacement is
in my standard tool kit, but I just rolled the bike home on one wheel.

Or take the old one, complete with all fittings, to a shop that
specialises in old motorcycles, especially old Brit or European bikes.

They'll likely either have the kit to put a new inner in your outer,
or know someone who will.
