Subject: Petition to Convince Ed Dolan to Stay (or Go)
I am proposing that we take an on-line poll of all readers of ARBR to
determine whether we, as a group, want Ed Dolan to stay or leave. In order
for this to work, we need the numerous lurkers to step forward and make your
voices heard. I suspect that there are many more lurkers to ARBR than there
are active posters. I also suspect that many lurkers, such as myself,
priily visit ARBR to read the latest rants from Saint Edward. Even among
those of you who dislike Ed's politics or egotism, I bet you nonetheless
find him entertaining; and I suspect many of you agree that this newsgroup
would be a bore-fest without him.

So what we need every ARBR reader to do, including (especially) all of you
lurkers, is to reply to this post with just a few simple words:

Either:

"Ed Should Stay"

Or:

"Ed Should Go"

After the posts die down in a few days or weeks, I will tally all of the
responses. If we find that the majority of ARBR readers want Ed to stay, I
hope he will heed the wishes of the majority. If, on the other hand, the
majority of ARBR readers want Ed to go, then he can do what he was planning
to do anyway, and vacate the premises.

So, after you read this, please respond with your vote. I will start the
ball rolling:

Ed Should Stay.

Ed is like a child. If you respond to the off topic rhetoric, he'll keep
it up, because it feeds him the attention he requires. If you only
respond when he remains on topic he'll learn to follow that behavior.
Alternatively you can take him as an egotistic troll and chose to ignore
all his posts. A simple filter will do this. I have done this since I
found he is so rarely on topic and just by his signature you can tell
his ego is too big to leave room for a brain in his head.

I do not aim to please. There are plenty of other dunderheads who are here
for that purpose. I aim to stimulate and get the old juices flowing. This
works best on off topic. Most on topic posts are for the brain dead and are
strictly for morons and imbeciles.

I decided on my signature when no others on this group objected to the
signature of one Peter Clinch of Dundee, Scotland. He has the most amazingly
stupid signature I have encountered on any newsgroup. Since his stupidity
passes muster here on ARBR without any objection, I decided to do him one
better. But stay tuned, I am thinking of upping the ante yet once again.

Ed Dolan obviously has no idea what engineer's salaries are and what
the cost of living is near any place where jobs are available. Here is
a hint, newly graduated civil engineers in the Chicagoland area can
expect to start out with salaries of about $40K per year. Taxes will
reduce that to about $28K per year. Subtract rent, utilities and
insurance for a single bedroom apartment, transportation expenses, and
basis food and the leftover amount is now down to about $6K per year.
Subtract the student loan payments that many have to make, and
discretionary income drops to $200-300 per month.

Welcome to the reality of living in 21st Century USA.

You would be better off in the boondocks where the cost of living is not so
outrageous. What is the point of working if you have to spend it all just to
live.

However, there is no doubt that everyone is spending way too much on rent. I
am living in an old ramshackle house where the taxes are minimal. My main
expense is the utilities, mainly heat. Frankly, I could not afford to live
anywhere near Chicagoland.

Mr. Sherman should get ried and then put his wife to work. Women don't
mind work. They are like donkeys that way. They will work hard and be
conscientious to a fault for the sake of a bit of lucre.

I traded a small piece of paper for the right to adopt Earth Cycles
Sunset Lowracer [TM] SS0006.

The previous care provider insists the correct color is LAVENDER. To
the best of my knowledge, Earth Cycles Sunset Lowracer [TM] SS0006 has
the original powder coat. I could make further inquires as to whether
the original care provider [3] specifically requested the color or not.

Who wants a common orange Sunset Lowracer [TM] anyhow? With 14 or so
out there, an orange Sunset Lowracer [TM] rider will see
himself/herself coming and going all the time. [3] ;)

[1] Just like I did for Earth Cycles Sunset Lowracer [TM] SS0003.
[2] I am, at least, the third person to care for Earth Cycles Sunset
Lowracer [TM] SS0006.
[3] Especially in NE Illinois, where most of the Earth Cycles Sunset
Lowracers [TM] currently reside.

I've changed my mind. Ed should go. He claims to want to leave anyway and he

value of his posts (for me) has worn off. Time for Ed to move on.

There is no way in this world that a st ass New York Jew can ever brook
opposition. I have shown his morals to be despicable. He believes abortion
is fine and dandy and he also believes that it is fine and dandy to f***
everyone at the drop of a hat. I am honored to be on his undesirable list.

$kip,

"Lowracer" should be capitalized when it follows "Sunset".

The remnants of Earth Cycles are for sale. If I had actually inherited
money, I would likely be involved in reviving the company.

I can't believe it. It's your first day back and you have already started
insisting that people capitalize words that shouldn't be capitalized just
because that's the way you want it. I say it's Sunset lowracer just like
it's Ford truck. I'm not referring to the legal corporate trade ked name
or whatever.

$kip

p.s. - I thought I had it right about you inheriting money. Must have been
thinking about Ed and his money. Sorry about that. And yeah I know p.s.
should be capitalized.

Ed Dolan is as poor as a church mouse and has been all of his life. That is
because I refused ever to work. I have always considered work beneath me.
Laziness is my chief virture and my chief claim to fame. Hells Bells, if you
can't come into this world with a silver spoon in your mouth, you might as
well stay out of it. Work is for workers - leisure is for Great Ones like
myself. I need it so I can listen to the music of Beethoven full time and
otherwise contemplate my navel, thereby discovering the ultimate mysteries
of the universe.

I have never understood why people who are more or less working at a job
full time are not all filthy rich. Maybe it is because they have a wife and
children to support, but I do not believe Tom Sherman is ried. He also
does not have very many recumbents. The question arises at this point, what
is he spending all of his hard earned salary on? We here on ARBR need to
know.

Just kidding around Ed. I am very much aware of your vow of laziness and
poverty as well as your saintliness and good works here on ARBR.

I can count 5 recumbents that Tom now owns. Apparently he has acquired,
through hook or crook, another Sunset lowracer - a purple one (surely purple
wasn't a Sunset earth tone color used by the manufacturer).

Every message to this newsgroup is nothing but an opportunity for me to
pontificate. You and I are on the same page, but when you present me with an
opportunity to screw with this group, I can't resist. My post was all about
Tom Sherman and is directed to him, not to you.

I myself have a utility recumbent (Ed Roeter Maverick) which I bought as an
unpainted frameset and I painted it purple. I like purple because it is not
a serious color. It is an ideal recumbent for just running around town doing
chores and errands.

Tom, several of your posts are appearing twice. This used to happen to me
too until I slowed down.

Like you, I do not believe there are any BROL lurkers on this newsgroup.
These two forums are sufficiently different from one another and I cannot
imagine one having much interest in the other. BROL is for the impossibly
boring types (old Cletus Lee springs immediately to mind) and ARBR is for
those who like a bit of excitement from time to time.

Regards,

Ed Dolan - Minnesota

PS. Try to avoid one liner type of posts. You are too intelligent for that.

PS2. Welcome back!

Hi Ed,

In what particular areas was this person that shares my name wrong
about recumbent bicycles [1]?

[1] Or recumbent trikes, if we slightly stretch the boundaries of this
Usenet Newsgroup beyond the strict dictionary definitions of the words

Hi Tom,

You are very good, not to say excellent, when it comes to commenting on
recumbents. Your recent posts on the RANS Rocket are right on. But that is
not what I am talking about as you well know. It is when you get off the
subject of recumbents that you go badly astray. I attribute this to your
unreconstructed liberalism, ever an abomination and a disgrace to all
mankind.

Never mind that sharing your name business. That is the sort of thing that
Ed Gin (Johnny ReBike) does and you do not want to ever get that low. You
are now apparently residing closer to where he resides. My best advice is to
keep your distance from him. Before you know it, he will be stealing your
name and address.

k, what I've been hearing is that Tom inherited a great deal of money
and real estate from a very distant, very rich conservative relative, took
some time off, traveled around the country in his new motor home, then built
a big house in Fox River Valley, ried a fine looking trophy wife, and
enrolled in the Rush Limbaugh Institute of Conservative Studies where he is
currently working toward a neo-con degree. But the really big news is that
he is going into production on a titanium replica of the Sunset lowracer
just as soon as he can locate a reliable source for seat hemp.

Hi Skip,

Ah, 'tis balm to my soul to read the above!

I thought you had perhaps departed forever for greener pastures elsewhere on
Usenet. You have been sorely missed here on ARBR as no one else has your
wit.

I have instituted a new signature which I use because I am mostly contending
with nothing but idiots and morons whom I like to tweak. The old timers like
you will know me from my more sober days, but I have decided that newsgroups
are not to be taken seriously. That is why everything I write is now
strictly tongue in cheek. When I am half way serious, I will sign myself
simply as of old. When I am playing the clown (most of the time), I will
sign myself so as to annoy everyone to the utmost.

Regards,

Ed Dolan - Minnesota

Maybe 120 miles, as the crow flies, if the FRV in question is NW
Chicago and the 0003 still resides with its most recent owner of

I hear he's dropping hemp in favor of Astroturf.

Don't you mean aluminium? The transparent somewhat harder to lacate,
especially in low light conditions.

No he means transparent aluminum however since Scotty has yet to master
Macintosh programming or the ability to use a one button mouse it is being
delayed....

Aluminum is the most common metal element in the
earth's crust. The -ium variant is more common
in the upper crust, outside the US. Bikes made
from aluminum are faster than bikes made from
aluminium. The extra syllable slows them down.

>The transparent somewhat harder to lacate,

Extraordinarily strong stuff, if Mr. Scott was to be
believed. Of course a simple containment-field
based full fairing may be the ideal solution. Needs
a better power supply than currently available,
perhaps.

A bike made out of transparent aluminum, now there would be something
special. It should have been discovered back in the 70's or 80's when Mr.
Scott came here from the future but somehow they still don't have it at Home
Depot. How hard could it be to make? Even the lowly original Mac was capable
of showing its structure in a CAD program. I blame a vast right wing
conspiracy that is keeping this wonderous metal from the public.

Seems to me this ARBR posting record, Ed's big good bye, and this Petition
to convince Ed to stay has been a sham and hoax from the beginning. The
whole thing was concocted by Dolan & Sherman as a joke on the BROL lurkers
and ARBR regulars. As usual Dolan and Sherman seem to have the last laugh.

HHS, it would never even occur to me to do what you suggest. However, Mr.
Sherman is half way to being a Monkey Islander himself (at least he never
complains about them), but still I know that he would never resort to such
skullduggery. Mr. Sherman does have a strange sense of humor, but he has
always been open and above board. He does not hide behind user names and
false addresses like most do. For shams and hoaxes, I refer you to Ed Gin
(Johnny ReBike). He knows all about garbage like that.

It appears that the redoubtable Mr. Tom Sherman has returned to this
newsgroup. He is very good when it comes to commenting on recumbents (as is
Jon Meinecke, another longtime member of this group, whom I have also been
at loggerheads from day one). He is not so good when he gets on most other
subjects because his extreme liberal ideology colors everything he says.

I enjoy reading what Tom has to say about recumbents because he is
knowledgeable and an excellent writer. I hope he will stay on the subject of
recumbents and not invade my turf which has mainly to do with combating
idiots and morons who if it were not for me would soon take over this group
and we would end up with nothing but mindless banter. I refer you to the
Australian bicycle group for what I mean.

This is the kind of mindless banter that we want to avoid here on ARBR. Any
idiot can do this sort of thing. I could write a one liner to each and every
post that appears, but I don't do that sort of thing out of respect for
other members of the group. If I do not have something to say that will at
least run to one fairly substantial paragraph, I will refrain from
contributing to the general idiocy. Even John Meinecke does not do one
liners.

Mr. Sherman knows how to think and how to write and there is therefore no
excuse for these one liners which are only of interest to the principals
involved. Other newsgroups are notorious for this sort of nonsense. I would
like to establish a rule that no one should post anything to a newsgroup
that does not run to at least 3 or 4 sentences. One liners are for total
idiots. Since I know Mr. Sherman is not a total idiot, he should refrain
from one liners.

I'll say one thing for Tom Sherman. He was at least intelligent if
wrongheaded about everything. The present crop of ARBR posters are mostly
idiots and morons which is why I shall shortly be leaving never to return.

The most wonderful thing about newsgroups (Usenet) is that others from all
over the world may be reading what we are writing to one another. That is
why I always try to say something that might be of interest to unknown
readers. It seems rekable to me that someone in Taiwan should be reading
what we are writing to one another. Because that is the case we should be
careful what we say to one another.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Joshua.

But is this the same Joshua Goldberg with whom I got into a furious verbal

totally incompatible after all.

Me thinks Joshua has found a new forum for his formerly prolix posts. He was

PS-Ed is right about one thing, this group has largely died and gone
on down the road. It has become more a fun house mirror for Mr. Ed &
his minions than the recumbent resource it was in days of yore.

My apologies to what is left of the group for my own contributions to
the present landscape.

Since his campaign for the self-proclaimed milestone day Ed has
seemingly toned things down (thinly vieled trolls aside). He lately
has taken to responding to slugger's single line insults with
gibberish, sort of GIGO I guess. And despite my not so veiled taunts
eddie has only heaped piles in my direction once, when I hit a couple
of his buttons and got the predictable responses. No Saint, not Great,
but fair in his own way.

I think it must go back to a day in Ed's childhood, while watching a
TV commercial and eating frosted flakes. When Tony roared 'They're
G-r-r-reat!' Mr. Ed must've thought the consumers were being
referenced, and it just stuck.

If anyone's interested I made a ride from Lafayette Indiana to
Bloomington, Indiana and back last week. I found a road I felt I could
not ride in safety, Indiana state highway 46 from Sencer to
Bloomington had constant traffic, virtually no shoulders, and a slight
ledge along the white stripe on the side of the lane. I did several
extra miles of quite hilly terrain to avoid those fifteen miles.

The US is full of roads like you describe above and all cyclists should
avoid those kind of roads like the plague. I will go many miles out of my
way to do just that.

The Western part of the US is much worse than the Midwest in this respect.
You can normally find an alternative route consisting of back country roads
in the Midwest and you very often can't in the more sparsely settled West.
In a state like Wyoming you are often stuck on heavily trafficked roads with
not much shoulder whereas in a state like Minnesota or Iowa there are always
back roads you can take with little or no traffic. You must take these back
roads rather than major highways unless the highway has a good shoulder
where you will be relatively safe from getting run over.

Many thanks for the kind words, Bruce. My only purpose in being here is to
provide some entertainment to the troops for what would otherwise be a very
boring newsgroup. I like to supply some moral instruction too for good
measure.

Most recumbent cyclists are elderly men who have been working class types
all of their lives and have neglected their minds. All I have ever done is
to cultivate my mind since I never had to work much, so why should others
not benefit from my life of leisure.

Yes, I shall sadly be leaving one of these days and then the group can go
back to the way it was before I showed up. Liberals will once again take
over and there will be the mindless banter among a select few. At that point
the group will realize that I brought something valuable to the table that
will be sorely missed.

Most newsgroup are nothing but mindless banter among a self selected few. It
makes newsgroups a vast wasteland. It takes time and effort to write the
kind of posts that I submit which is why so few do it. But I believe every
newsgroup should have a few such individuals. The besetting sin of all
newsgroups is the terminal boredom of being forever on topic with mindless
banter. I spared ARBR that fate for as long as I could.

Regards,

Ed Dolan - Minnesota

"that those from" ?

When it comes to morality I am a fundamentalist, but when it comes to
religion I am an atheist. Most morality can be based on common sense, but
not all. That is why I occasionally have to resort to the moral teachings of
a religion. Roman Catholicism is the preferred religion for this purpose of
course.

I have been a gentleman of leisure my entire life. You could have been too
if you had not been so foolish as to ry and have children. It is not my
fault that you ended up nothing but a working stiff. That was still no
excuse for neglecting your mind, but I know it can be tough to feed your
mind when you have a wife and children to feed.

We have already established that I am the most secure person on this

I say some interesting and perhaps controversial things about newsgroups and

I ALWAYS had some content to my posts, but I do admit it is hard to add
content when someone like you posts nothing but tripe and nonsense.

There are some ideas in my paragraph above that we could discuss, but you do
not have the brains to do it. Name calling is never an adequate response. In
fact, you illustrate to perfection what I am complaining about. In as much
as your contributions have become nothing but aimless banter (albeit
unpleasant), I leave you to yourself.

Pot calling kettle, pot calling kettle. What does your reply have to

Are you inferring that I only write tripe?

The above sentence should read as follows:

>>>I ALWAYS add some content to my posts, but I do admit it is hard to add
>>>content when someone like you posts nothing but tripe and nonsense.

Sometimes I think Spell Check fouls me up more than it is worth. I bought an
add-on spell check because my Outlook Express did not have one.

Another thing that kicks in is that we are often unable to see our own
errors, even very simple ones. That is why the entire world of writing and
publishing is full of editors. It is not so easy to pick up our own errors
because of the way our brains are wired. I can easily edit someone else's
writing and get it error free, but I almost have a blind spot when it comes
to my own writing. I think all of us fall into this category, except for the
redoubtable Mr. Tom Sherman. He is the most error free poster to ARBR I have
ever known. He would no doubt make an excellent editor.

Inheritances play a pretty big role all right. The problem is that most
people blow their inheritances. You have to be a saver and never spend money
foolishly.

The main thing is that most people want to get ried and have children.
Once you ry, you are really rying into society and all that that
entails. Your wife will see to that. You will have to get a house (her nest)
and provide for her children. As Zorba the Greek would say, it is the
complete catastrophe.

Very many in this fat land could do what I did, but it helps if you are a
bit of a hermit and are not tied into society. Still, I do not recommend my
way as you have to be a special kind of person to make it work. Very many
men who try it my way end up early suicides.

Many, like myself, decided long ago Edward is to be pitied but easily
dismissed with filters. But the number of Ed responders proved too
numerous , and often valuable, too kill with a filter - so we moved to
BROL.

If you really want to know how people feel, don't ask these last
hold-outs - ask at BROL, prepare for the applause :)

I am of two minds about BROL. It is the place to go if you want recumbent
specific information all right. However, it is just way too boring and
tiresome for someone like me. A newsgroup without excitement is senseless.

ARBR has had its ups and downs over the years. Many of those who used to
post to ARBR left the group because they did not want any outsiders to
interfere with their mindless banter and liberal political comments. I got
rid of that bunch and I think they are all to be found on BROL now. Many of
them were retired Florida types who were into nothing but caressing one
another. That was not for me as you can well imagine.

The one thing that can destroy a newsgroup, any newsgroup, are criminal
vandal trolls. I have always tried to add something to the group and have
wanted the group to prosper, but there is no defense against criminal vandal
trolls. They can take down a newsgroup in just a few weeks easily. That
being the case, we should none of us come to rely on Usenet for anything
important. It is for fun and games only and should never be taken seriously.

All moderated newsgroups like BROL are impossibly boring. There is no
excitement on them whatever. However, they are the future because they are
safe and civil and more or less informational. But they are no fun.

How about you go set up a gfroup for your collection of morons and

There he can be the emperor of all his minions (he can appoint you

Now you see why Jim has an XXX as part of his user name. Believe me when I
tell you this that anyone who is constantly referencing masturbation is
heavily into it. I think that is all we will ever have to know about him.

You're kidding, right? Even if every lurker and every regular
poster banded together as one and asked/implored/demanded that he
go, you would have no authority to compel him to do anything at
all. This isn't intended as a flame. It's simply an observation
of the way USENET works.

Only the ISP which owns the server and provides a given poster's
access has any authority. Appeals to his ISP will almost
certainly go unheeded. Although you may find him annoying,
nothing he's doing would violate any ISP's AUP.

If that is the case then why would you want to get rid of him?

> and I suspect many of you agree that this newsgroup

I can't speak for anyone but myself. I have no idea what others
may think. I personally find him neither entertaining nor
annoying. He's just a troll and you are feeding him. It seems
that you enjoy doing so, much as children enjoy throwing peanuts
to monkeys in the zoo. Again, no flame. If that floats your
boat, feel free to continue. I occasionally filter Ed and a few
others but I turn off the filters after a while to see if
anything useful is being posted.

Ed will stay as long as he likes, regardless what I might say
about it. I really don't care what he does.

> Or:
>
> "Ed Should Go"

Or perhaps... those who feed him should go away. If no one
answers him after a while he'll get bored and disappear. Of
course, getting those who enjoy feeding the troll to co-operate
is about as likely as getting Ed to leave.

Bruce, this is USENET and this is a newsgroup. It doesn't work your way.
This isn't a moderated group. You don't have to read any of E.D.'s rants;
add him to your kill filter, but there is no such thing as voting people
off. If you want the psychological comfort of a censored community where
sycophants suck each other's asses and name their bents with baby talk
names, then go live by BROL.

Ed hasn't changed much. I don't even see his posts, except for what's quoted
by a few guys (and you all know who you are) doing pointless jousts with Ed,
goading him to try and keep topping himself. At least with Tom Sherman, we
got a lesson in zionist politics. So forget the voting and go riding.

If people want this newsgroup to be about 'bents, start posting about bents.

Al, it is getting harder and harder to top myself. I am already at the God
level and I don't know where to go from there. I am thinking about going in
the other direction and transforming myself into the Devil. The trouble is
though that I really do not know too much about evil other than what I have
read in books. Besides, there is nothing more enjoyable than telling others
how they should live from a holier than thou perspective.

Tom Sherman was not bad by and large, but he could send me around the bend
when he compared the Israeli Defense Forces to the Palestinian terrorists.
He did not like being called an anti-Semite, that is for sure.

I'm a lurker. I'm here to learn about recumbent bikes : I already know
sufficient about trolls. I can't use your voting choice, because I
don't care whether Ed stays or leaves - I can killfile him or not as I
like.

But I wish other people wouldn't follow up or fill the group with
moans about him. Don't you know you shouldn't feed the troll ?
