Do any list readers have children who learned to ride a bike on a recumbent? If so, how'd it go? Thanks, Cullen http://comatimes.blogspot.com

Not bikes, but a fair number of kids learn to ride on fixie low-racer delta recumbent trikes, aka BigWheels(TM). %^) I don't personally know any kids who learned on a recumbent,-- mine were already riding before I got my first recumbent. However, six year olds have test ridden my BikeE without any difficultly. Also 70 year olds... The BikeE and similar recumbents may have an easy-to-test-ride advantage due to the relatively upright seating and low bottom bracket. The BikeE also benefited from a very wide range of adjustability for rider leg length and the sloping frame meant as the seat adjusted forward, it also got lower. Too bad BikeE isn't around for Bob Cardone to complain about anymore. There was a "home-made" bike builder who posted links to pictures of recumbent bikes he had made for kids... Check the Google archives. Jon Meinecke

Yes! He had some issues with a BikeE that soured his opinion of them. Where he found lemons, I found lemonade. My BikeE is going on 9 years old, and though it doesn't get high mileage usage any more, it still gets short-hop/errand usage almost weekly. Of my three recumbents, in some ways, the BikeE is still the most "fun" to ride. Not the fastest. Not the best cruising. Not the most efficient... Lots of "nots", but overall, for me, the BikeE has been very durable, usable and user friendly. Jon Meinecke
