This newsgroup so far seems to be getting back to normal. There have been no
attacks on the Great Ed Dolan and so the Great Ed Dolan has been quiescent
himself. Let's keep it that way.

There are still two retards who post to this group who have the effect of
messing up the Google Groups webpage for ARBR. They can best be handled by
simply deleting their posts forthwith. The best solution of course is to use
a proper newsreader which makes it all so much easier.

Ed Dolan is encouraged by what he now sees taking place on this newsgroup.
If everyone behaves themselves there is no reason why this group cannot
prosper. I urge one and all to behave yourselves.

Yep.

So, anyway--I am using Thunderbird as a newsgroup reader, and I tried to
set up some filters, because there's some posters that I don't want to
have to scroll through.
,,,,,,,
But my shit ain't working, what should I set Thunderbird to do to the
thread? I tried "delete message" but over a couple days it's become
obvious that this setting doesn't work. I'm trying "ignore message" now,
but if that still leaves the bothersome posts there, that's no help either.

Even spam crap like Mr MI5-victims still show up, when nobody else even
responds to them.

If I have it set to not show me this shit, then these messages should be
"not appearing", right? But they are all still there.

I don't understand what Thunderbird filtering is supposed to actually
/do/...... or is it a sad piece of work that does not function?

I use the old standby Outlook Express. I used to never use the "block
sender" feature, but after MI5 and Ed Dolan and a few others, I tried it
out. I now have 10 emails in my block sender list for my 5 subscriptions to
newsgroups. A few of the blocked are multiples of the same person (Ed has 2
for example). I really enjoy watching my screen when downloading
messages--the number goes up, then down! The results are very pleasant--and
I no longer even mind reading some messages like this original that quoted
one of my blocked people. Give it a try--very easy and works well. I use
Mozilla for my browser but decided to continue with Outlook Express--it does
all I need.

Hey I. "Freaking" Bike, you cretin, be sure to block me as I do not ever
want to be bothered with a moron like you. Better yet, stay the hell off of
this newsgroup. We already have enough idiots here. Too many like you and
the group can be renamed to Assholes, Rejects, Bozos, Retards (ARBR).

Anyone who is on 5 newsgroups is truly a bona fide idiot! What's the matter?
ARBR just not enough for you?

My Thunderbird method : I have one filter for all spammers and irritants
as soon as I realize that a poster is annoying they get into the filter
set for sender is insert -email here- and delete message. This is pretty
effective as long as people don't respond to the original post.

If you're picking up through a News service you can't delete the
message as it isn't yours to delete, sitting as it does on an
external server. Rather, have the group set to view unread only

Doug, you just have to delete the messages day by day as they appear. That
is what I do. But get rid of them or they will drive you crazy. Forget about
kill-filters. That is way too much work for the kind of human scum we are
dealing with.

Yes, this is most annoying crap. The poor slob has obviously gone around the
bend. However, I think we have to expect a certain number of crazies on a
newsgroup that does not have a moderator. It is the price we pay for being
an open and free forum.

Doug, just delete the offending posts. I do this all the time and I have a
SPAMMING TROLL stalker who is posting all kinds of scurrilous shit about me
all the time. Always remember, we live in a world of shit. Try to minimize
it, but you cannot eliminate it altogether.

I just got a new Newsgroup client called Unison, I run a mac, the rules
work great, the kill files
are all working and the grouping makes it all easy to read, well worth it.

Yeah, but no one else likely runs a Mac. In any event, kill files are
totally unnecessary on a very small newsgroup like ARBR. Just delete those
messages which you don't want to ever see again. That is what I do with
respect to the SPAMMING TROLL (Ed Gin) and that poor slob from the UK who is
a paranoid crazy.

It always amazes me the trouble some folks go through so they do not have to
see messages from certain folks. For Christ's sakes, just don't read or even
look at those messages. How hard can that be?

I have been the subject of the most scurrilous messages from a criminal
vandal troll (Ed Gin) on this newsgroup in the entire history of Usenet, but
I do not kill file anyone - ever. Jim McNaa does not kill file either and
he has been silarly attacked by the same criminal vandal troll. It is
just plain stupid to kill file. You ALWAYS want to know what others are
saying no matter what. We humans are not ostriches.

Who knows, I may one day say something about Buck that he will dearly want
to know. I NEVER kill file anyone - ever! For God's sakes, screw up your
courage and take the bull by the horns. Are you men or mice?
