Well as you know Ed Gin is the leader of the Chi-town possee. We all
ride together on the trails and open roads of Chi-town!
Barrington hills is a very special place and I will drive a couple of
hours to ride there. It is country in the middle of a very large urban
area.
The drivers in the Barrington hills are used to cyclists of all kinds
and share the road. I was just blown away by how kind the motorists are
in this comunity!
Also, Mr. Gin knows where all the great coffee houses are in town and
shows all visitors a grand time while in the Chicago area. Just ask the
Bacchetta principals if they had a good time in Chicago on there Monkey
Island venture?
I of course was there last year when they came. I of course invited
them.
I would like to see a group of BROL riders come to the Barrington hills
for a ride. You would have a great time and would have much to report
on Bryan's site concerning 'bents.
But of course this is a much banned topic on that "private" message
board.

Be aware that many of the regular participants like to hammer quite
hard. On the other hand, everyone is friendly to those who have more
modest performance.

If only there was high speed maglev service to Chicago, I likely would.
Three hundred twenty (320) miles driving and eight (8) gallons of
gasoline consumed is a discouraging impediment.

This only works reliably on older or poorly maintained vehicles.
Passenger motor vehicles produced in the last decade or so that meet
modern emissions standards may produce too little carbon monoxide to
cause death, even in a fairly confined space.

I feel certain my old '72 Corvette is capable of producing tons of carbon
monoxide. I would be pleased to make it available on a special basis to to
current arbr posters.

If Skip's Corvette is in decent condition, it probably puts out about 2
orders of magnitude more CO, HC, and NOx than a new vehicle that meets
LEV standards. In fact, in a very polluted area, the exhaust of a LEV
vehicle will often be cleaner than the air taken into the engine.

A "corvette" is a small naval vessel. When capitalized to "Corvette", it
is the proper name of a two-seat vehicle manufactured by the Chevrolet
division of General Motors Corporation in various forms since 1953.

I doubt a corvette would fit in most garages.

Yes, if only maglev. I did a quick google and didn't see any US
development. Service in Germany, China, and of course Japan now.

Of course I would like to travel on it, but just riding it at 250 mph
through the suburbs would be a thrill. Google maglev and watch the videos.

Here's a mag hybrid tadpole trike that could move you around kinda rapidly.

300 mph maglev trains may be coming to UK.

UK commuters more concerned that they run on time than they are in how fast
they will go.

There must be some bad history getting trains to run on time in the UK.

The railways suffered chronic under investment through the Thatcher
years, as Mrs. T. was a big fan of "the great car economy" (she actually
said something anyone using public transport over the age of 30 was a
failure!). Towards the end of the era the railways were privatised, and
a thoroughly bad job was done of it. I'm not saying that state
ownership of railways is a requirement, but the way British Rail was
passed into public hands looked like someone sat down and thought of the
most dopey way to do it, and then did that! The track was sold off as
one company, and various train operators as others, and they all had to
lease track. The track company put profits above infrastructure
maintenance and following a fatal derailment a couple of years ago which
highlighted the deteriorating state of the track the company then shut
off large sections for emergency maintenance, before subsequently going
bust. None of this has helped...

With enough problems trying to create a baseline of working trains
merely well behind continental Europe, the chances of a brand new,
untried system going in alongside is, ooooh, about 0% IMHO.

Pete.

I believe it was done in the way which was most calculated to make it
impossible to reverse, since the Monster Raving Tory Party were at
that time staring inevitable election defeat in the face. Far from
being botched , the privatisation was actually extraordinarily
successful, in that it met the aims of (a) ensuring that most of the
public money which goes to rail was diverted to the construction
companies owned and run by them and their friends; (b) ensuring that
any attempt to migrate serious amounts of traffic from road to rail
would be mired in contractual nonsense (for example with track access
charges which make it cheaper to deliver new rolling stock by road
than by rail, and cheaper to run a parallel bus service than to add
one extra carriage to an existing train); and (c) that the cost of
undoing the mess would be prohibitive.

Admittedly that's success in the strictly limited sense of "delivering
most money to our friends and putting the boot as hard as possible
into the rail unions", but by the end I think the public service ethic
had pretty much died out in that party anyway.

Be careful about associating yourself in any manner with Ed Gin and this
Chicago trash. He is a notorious stealer of names and a liar to boot. He
will most likely steal your name and use it to post to newsgoups with. He
also has an extremely dirty mind and a foul mouth. Don't believe me? Check
out his posts to ARBR under various false and stolen names and also check
out the Monkey Island web site if it hasn't already been shut down. There
you will see nothing but buckets of slime. Trust me on this. You would not
want to be caught dead with this group. And you do not ever want to be seen
anywhere near Ed Gin. He is the source of all the slime.

You are much too kind to these people who are undeserving in every wa
for what they have posted about others in the past.I am not speaking o
the silly way they wrote about me but rather things written long ago of
their island home.I am sure many people will remember the shame tha
belongs to these monkeys and their leader. It is time to deliver tha
load of crap back upon their own heads and let them bear the weight o
their own foul deeds
