Santa Cruz has become Tourist Central and trying to find HPV-related areas is like pulling teeth! Best weather, seasons, and areas off the overcrowded track is Monterey, CA. Any other ideas- not blizzard, snowy, or hot area? Chris Jordan Santa Cruz, CA.

Glenn Drury racing a Velokraft NoCom lowracer. What is amazing is Mr. Drury was riding a stock bike with no fairings. He finished the 400 km race a twitch short of 2 hours less than the regular cyclists team. Ian Smythe ........................................................................................................................................................................... Re: Recumbent Racer Glen Drury sets course record That is quite an impressive accomplishment. Who is the rider and what bike did he ride? Was he in a F-40? Stan Vinson P38 ..................................................................... ......................................................... Recumbent cycles entered the 400km cycle for the first time (as a separate category), with Glen Druryclocking the impressive time of 11:57:37. With the popularity of the recumbents, the race is likely to be open next year to other specialist cyclists (all scored in different categories).

The Northwest Provinces of Pakistan? I think even Kabul has cars nowadays. You'll probably need an MTB too. I mean, if you expect paved roads and no cars isn't that a little unrealistic? Well, you can get away from the cars by hopping in a pedal kayak in Key West to go back in the mangroves, but you might encounter the occasional shark (they're usually harmless nurse sharks though) and there are power boats out in the open shallows. There are some nasty currents, too. Oh yeah, watch out for the man-o-wars. -- --Scott <flash_j_95060@yahoo.com > wrote in message news:1106513744.307467.92360@f14g2000cwb.googlegroups.com... > Santa Cruz has become Tourist Central and trying to find HPV-related > areas is like pulling teeth! AFAIK, Portland's about as close as you'll get in the continental U.S., and it still ain't superb. Of course, I'm prejudiced. I went for a 40-ish mile ride this morning, met with a few folks from the OHPV, and test-rode the Jack Frost time trial course. The worst traffic tie-ups were from the half-athon they were running out there- it kinda slowed down the HPV pace line (6 of us) we had going. On the way back, we stopped at the bagel shop and ran into the finish of one ride, the start of another, and the local racing team lollygagging around. Portland/Vancouver's pretty good for HPV'ing year 'round, and we don't have tourists or blizzards. I like it here. Jeff

Meb has got it right. After all this is NORTH America, not the tropics. I believe the only place in the US that has a very good winter climate is South Florida. I also understand that that is a very expensive place in which to reside. If you aren't filthy rich, forget about it. North Florida is not nearly so expensive, but then North Florida is not nearly so nice as far as climate is concerned as South Florida. --- Regards, Ed Dolan the Great - Minnesota
