Subject: Will Lightning Ever Strike Again?

I wandered onto LIghtning's web site today wondering what if anything was new with the P38. At a glance it appears there is NOTHING new with the P38. There was a time when I thought the P38 was the ultimate SWB. TImes have changed. With so many strong contenders from companies like RANS, Bacchetta, Volae, Barcroft, Burley, VeloKraft, Easy Racers, Challenge, Optima and others, will the P38 and Lightning in general ever return to the spotlight? I think not. Jim Reilly Reading, PA

Ed, I too recall the arrogance at Lightning. And their record of customer service speaks for itself. Tom, I have not heard any specific rumors, but it seems to me they must be hurting. Jim

I don't know about rumors, but BentRider Online reports that they've reintroduced the Phantom model (the subject of a bike review), and it's being built in North Carolina. -- I do not accept unsolicited commercial e-mail. I never met a more arrogant company than Lightning. Since I am fairly arrogant myself, you had better believe that the sparks flew. Their customer relations was the pits, not just with me but with everyone. How they managed to stay in business all these years is one of the great mysteries of the universe. I resolved never to buy their P-38 even if it were the last recumbent in the world. But in any event, the P-38 was always vastly overrated. It will not be missed when it goes belly-up. I think not. Can anyone confirm or deny the rumors [1]? [1] Which I will not specify here, in case they are false. -- Tom Sherman - Fox River Valley
