Well, I've broken another chain today - a Wipperman on my Campy setup. I've had two of these chains previously and besides the somewhat early chain stretch, they worked quite well and have a nice quick link. When I broke a Campy Record chain on its 1st ride, I decided to go with something else and the Wipperman seemed to fit the bill. I was climbing a 12% pitch when this piece of shit decided to break....not pretty. I managed to stay upright and diving for the ditch, I didn't bite it too bad - only a hole in my shorts (dammit) and a small abrasion. I'm glad it didnt happen out of the saddle sprinting at 35 mph. Does SRAM make a Campy compatible 10sp chain?

The 6.2 chain worked fine as did the Wipperman/Mavic 6.2 chain. The 5.9 are quieter, so an improvment, but the 6.2 did 'work well'. It shifted, it was reliable, what else is a chain supposed to do? shimano found that when they went to 10s, and made the cogs really close together, their shifting system works well only by very precise adjustment and is very prone to noisiness with small degradations in chain wear, cable wear and drag, BB guide crud, etc. ALL 10s systems are more finicky, and more expensive. $ to spend for a couple of cogs. > > -- > > David L. However, Campy chains really are superior in lifetime and reliability. I work in a bike shop and tried a lot of 10sp. chains apart from Campa (Shimano, KMC, Wippermann) Campy chains last about twice as long as all the others (about 6000k) and do not break when you install them correctly. They even do not break when you use a Wippermann link. So, I would reconsider.. Alex

Once upon a time, when Campag chains were 6.2..Wipperman was just matching the Campag dimensions..now that Campag is 5.9, the 'Campag ' or 'shimano' specifics don't apply. Just like you could use a shimano 9s chain on Campag 9s systems and a Rohloff on shimano 8s systems, etc...dimensions apply, not manufaturer.

As noted by another poster, 6.2 was too wide. Hard to keep in adjustment and noisy, especially at the extremes. I recently switched from the Wipperman 6.2 to the Campy narrow, and, with the exception of some issues with some POS Superlinks (replaced with the Wipperman 6.05 Shimano link) it shifts like a dream and is very quiet. And much fewer adjustment issues. D'ohBoy

Interesting that a gent that works for a cycling marketing company here in the republic wanders around thru LBS and asks questions like.." which chain will work with what" and an amazing number say Campag will only work with Campag, shimano with shimano, etc...a chain is a chain is a chain..dimensions matter, not place of manufacture.

The obvious guess would be that their own chain, supposedly meant for the equipment, did not work well. If you trust them, now that they got it "right", fine, but it would seem like a good idea to look for other brands -- or to return to 9-speed, which does not have this problem. -- David L. I'm perfectly happy with 9-speed and want to stick with it as long as possible. Replacing my right Ultegra shifter, should it die, looks like the problem, though - I should start looking around for a couple of used spares. -- Home page: http://members.westnet.com.au/mvw

None of the Campagnolo chains we have installed using either the Wipperman link or the Campagnolo pin have had problems. If the installer is just pushing any pin back thru-it will break.
