I'm looking at an old, single-cog US made hub. From tip to tip of the teeth is measuring about 9/16", as closely as I can measure, anyway. It's just a tad bit longer than the modern chain, such that it'll span about three teeth, but no more. So, what kind of chain and chain ring is it for which I'm searching? If I knew what to call it, I'd be more likely to find it. Jones

I always ask: why do something the easy way (i.e., get a 3/16" chain) when, with a little bit of effort, I can make it *much* more complicated and difficult? It wouldn't be "The Cowboy Way"!!! (I'm from Texas.) It's a damn good thing I don't make my living this way, huh, Andrew? Jones

Let's see... that would be called the "pitch", I think. It's on an old Bendix hub. It's definitely a longer pitch than 1/2". It'll take a fairly wide chain, but the pitch is a greater issue. Jones

More probably 1" x 3/16". Either locate/finance/acquire a chain or count on changing the cog. A standard 1/2" x 1/8" track cog fits most. My piece of chain is too narrow! It's 1/8" wide and the hub predates 1/8" chains!!! I did the math and it's almost exactly a fifty cent pitch. As Gilda Radner used to say... NEVER MIND!!! Is there any issue using a wide chain on a modern (1/8") chain ring? I wouldn't expect anything serious... a little extra wear, maybe. Jones
